Reivew: Grimspace by Ann Aguirre

Grimspace (Sirantha Jax, #1) by Ann Aguirre
Grimspace (Sirantha Jax, #1) by Ann Aguirre
By all accounts, Sirantha Jax should have burned out years ago…

As the carrier of a rare gene, Jax has the ability to jump ships through grimspace—a talent which cuts into her life expectancy, but makes her a highly prized navigator for the Corp. But then the ship she’s navigating crash-lands, and she’s accused of killing everyone on board. It’s hard for Jax to defend herself: she has no memory of the crash.

Now imprisoned and the subject of a ruthless interrogation, Jax is on the verge of madness. Then a mysterious man breaks into her cell, offering her freedom—for a price. March needs Jax to help his small band of rogue fighters break the Corp monopoly on interstellar travel—and establish a new breed of jumper.

Jax is only good at one thing—grimspace—and it will eventually kill her. So she may as well have some fun in the meantime…

Rating: 4/5 Stars

Sirantha Jax is not in the best of places as see sits in her room under the Corps supervision.  Her mind is a wreck and her heart is a mirror image.  Sirantha Jax is a jumper in Grimspace.  Not many are like her and her skills are highly qualifying.  Beyond her skills as a jumper there is something underlying that's even more special.  It is something that Jax herself doesn't even know until Doc makes the discovery.

With no memory of the disastrous crash that claimed many lives and that of someone special to Jax and another someone special to March, Jax is left with fragments of what happened and the guilt to go with it.  Matters are not helped when after March and his crew rescue Jax from the Corps's clutch she becomes a Wanted woman with her face plaster for galaxies to see.  Lopping her hair off and running for her life, Jax, March and the others embark on a space adventure that's sure to make huge ripples across the galaxy.

Adventure weaving with emotions make Grimspace a worth-while read.  Discovering what makes grimspace what it is through the eyes of Jax is interesting to say the least.  The quest that she's been broken free to aid in becomes her own quest.... discovering a way to create a different kind of jumper and to conduct the training.  The Corp has had their hands in too many pies and I suspect that it'll be quite the read to see that reign come to an end.
