Tyler by C.H. Admirand

Tyler (The Secret Life of Cowboys, #1)Tyler by C.H. Admirand
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I just finished the ARC copy of Dylan and didn't realize it wasn’t the first book - But Tyler’s story is a whole different story :)
I am so in love with the Cowboy's from Pleasure, Texas! I can't even explain it :)

Desperate times call for desperate measures...
When Tyler Garahan said he'd do anything to save his family's ranch, he never thought that would include taking a job as a stripper at a local ladies' club. But the club's fiery redheaded bookkeeper captures Tyler's attention, and for her, he'll swallow his pride...

And one good turn deserves another...
Emily Langley feels for the gorgeous cowboy. It's obvious that he's the real deal and wouldn't be caught dead in a ladies' revue if he wasn't in big trouble. And when he looks at her like that, she'll do anything to help...
Working days on the ranch and nights at the ladies' club, Tyler is plumb exhausted. But could it be that his beautiful boss needs him just as much as he needs her...

Jen's Review:

Tyler and Emily's story starts off with Tyler reading the ad for the Lucky Star interview -

"Hardworking Man wanted.
Must have a strong back
and even temperament.
Apply in person.."

Tyler had to find a job - NOW - the mortgage to the ranch was so far behind, he's worried they're going to take it from them.
So Tyler walks into the bar - lifting kegs and hauling things around will be hard work, concidering he works so hard during the day at the ranch, but they need the money, so he's going t have to lose some sleep until they can catch up a little bit.
Walking into the bar, the first thing he notices are the mirrors down the long hallway, followed by the red velvet benches along the wall - wow! "A guy doesn't want to see himself walk into a bar. He wants to see the bar, check out what's on tap, and maybe if his luck is running high, flirt with his choice of curvaceous sweet things perched on a barstool"
At the end of the hallway, he saw the bar, lined with barstools covered in red velvet "His mother had a favorite lady's chair in her bedroom. A Red Velvet lady's chair" So he knew all about velvet "Shit, I can't see myself working in this place"

But Jolene had a different idea - she DEFINATLY could see him working in her bar - The Lucky Star wasn't a regular bar - it was a bar for ladies to come and enjoy themselves, with a little entertainment up on the stage.
Tyler was a little slow at understanding what/who the entertainment was, but once he got a look at the cute little redheaded thing with a smear of chocolate on her shirt, he couldn't think of a single reason NOT to take the job, whatever it was they wanted him to do, if it means seeing her again, he'd do it...

Luckily he felt that way. Jolene, the owner of The Lucky star had a few tests for Tyler. A couple of advance touches and a few easy questions got Tyler's gut in a twist, and once she told him to "take off his shirt" Tyler started to think the job wasn't what he was looking for.

Until Jolene opened her mouth and said "Position pays $30 an hour plus tips" Wow! who would have thought! Lol And Tyler needed that kind of fast money, and he didn't want to say no.
FINALLY Tyler asks the right question "What do I have to do?" A few more tests of screaming girls jumping up on him (I SO wanted to be in Gwin's shoes :)  was all it took to tell Tyler, this was a job that was going to be tougher than hauling Kegs around.
AWESOME stuff being strutted in this book! Loved every second Tyler was uncomfortable on that stage :) To be Jennifer or Natalie and actually teaching him those seductive moves! AHHH !

When Emily sits back and watches this cowboy on his first night, she can see the steam coming out of his ears. She can tell his really not happy to be up there. but she is enjoying the show anyways.

Tyler and Emily have an instant attraction that seems to strike up a spark with every eye contact or touch. It took a lot of effort to control themselves, and even their first attentive kiss - awe - it was so light and slow, made my heart pound harder just reading about it. That expression "always leave them wanting more" OH yeah! That fit right there :)

Tyler had trouble adjusting to the hours of his new job, plus the hours he put in at the Ranch. Working until 3 am, up with the sun (luckily Dylan and Jesse took over a few of his morning chores so he could get a few hours of sleep in) but it was a struggle. And thoughts of Emily weren't helping him sleep better either.

Emily is Jolene's cousin, also part owner of the Lucky Star. and there is trouble going on in town. The town council is trying to get them to change the ways of Lucky Star, but Jolene and Emily are strong women and have their own way of doing things. Though Money is tight for them as well, at least now with Tyler as their headline attraction, they're starting to see things a little differently.
The romance in this book is HOT! I love the attraction that Tyler and Emily have. Their attraction is so comfortable, when Emily goes out to the Circle G Ranch and meets Tyler's brother's, she fits right in with their teasing and playing.
But then we meet a few snags on the way - Tyler's ex girlfriend wants him back, and Emily isn't sure what to do about it.  Then there is a shooting at the Lucky star....
Lots of fun reading. I'm in love with these cowboys and their friends. The fun easy teasing. They may be men of a few words, but their hearts and thoughts say a lot :)
Defiantly one to recommend to those looking for a great read :)

What's on the Reading Menu?

Aloha Friday LLL Readers.... What is on your reading menu today and this weekend!?  Anything worth sharing?

September 4th 2007 by Berkley Sensation        Caressed By Ice (Psy-Changeling #3) by Nalini SinghThere has been a number of times I've begun a series and have not continued reading on and it's not because I do not enjoy them.  Well, there are some bad apples.  With my never ending TBR pile there is always a book eagerly awaiting me.  Take that and couple it with my husband asking me to slim my bookshelves, I need to make progress on the books I do have.  Btw, I keep the fact that most books on my shelves have yet to be read...  <(*_*)>

August 21st 2012 by Pocket                Widow’s Web (Elemental Assassin #7) by Jennifer EstepSo this Friday I am reading book three in the Psy-Changeling series by Nalini Singh.  Judd is a Psy which means he's been condition to have no emotions but faced with a woman who thrives on emotions and touch Judd is in for an awakening.  Quite frankly, I'm looking forward to Judd cracking and finally experiencing feelings both internal and external.

After taking a test last Saturday I'm finally at a place where I can breathe and read again.  No more studying just physical training.  So that means I crack opened a book.  No, I click on my kindle. I read Jennifer Estep's Widow's Web.  The seventh book in the series.  I must say that you all are in for quite a ride.  Throughout the books Gin Blanco balances along a precipice of "No Return."  But that's the Gin I've come to know and love.  She walks the tight line and makes those difficult decisions.  Anything less would be unacceptable.  However, the ending I do find unacceptable on a personal preference note.  But that is all I will say on the matter until I post a review.

Have a great day and even better weekend!

Easy by Tammara Webber

EasyEasy by Tammara Webber
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Loved this book!

When Jacqueline follows her longtime boyfriend to the college of his choice, the last thing she expects is a breakup. After two weeks in shock, she wakes up to her new reality: she’s single, attending a state university instead of a music conservatory, ignored by her former circle of friends, stalked by her ex’s frat brother, and failing a class for the first time in her life.

Her econ professor gives her an email address for Landon, the class tutor, who shows her that she’s still the same intelligent girl she’s always been. As Jacqueline becomes interested in more from her tutor than a better grade, his teasing responses make the feeling seem mutual. There’s just one problem—their only interactions are through email.

Meanwhile, a guy in her econ class proves his worth the first night she meets him. Nothing like her popular ex or her brainy tutor, Lucas sits on the back row, sketching in a notebook and staring at her. At a downtown club, he disappears after several dances that leave her on fire. When he asks if he can sketch her, alone in her room, she agrees—hoping for more.

Then Jacqueline discovers a withheld connection between her supportive tutor and her seductive classmate, her ex comes back into the picture, and her stalker escalates his attention by spreading rumors that they’ve hooked up. Suddenly appearances are everything, and knowing who to trust is anything but easy.

Author Recommendation: Mature Young Adults (language, drinking, sexual situations)

Jen's Review:

Jacqueline and Kennedy had been together for 3 years. Right after high school, she decided to follow him to collage instead of going to the collage she wanted to. She thought things with Kennedy were for sure. She thought nothing would break them up.. Until Kennedy decided to be a jerk.. ok maybe he was just being a guy. at least he didn't want to cheat on her, but to break up with her after 3 years?? Crazy guy didn't know a good thing when he had it.

2 weeks of laying in bed, crying, missing her classes,Jacqueline's best friend and room mate Erin drags her off to a party on campus. Jacqueline didn't want to go, but she went.. and since she was the designated driver, being sober, watching her ex- pawing all the other girls, she decided to leave early, knowing Erin would hook up with her boyfriend and wouldn't really need a ride home until morning.

Walking through the dark parking lot, she got to her truck, unlocked the door, then all of a sudden she's laying face down on the seat and someone is pinning her down.
Drunk as can be, Buck starts to strip her down and have his way with her. Having so much weight and height over her, she couldn't move, could hardly even breathe!
Then all of a sudden, he's not there anymore. She scoots to the far end of the truck, and she see's Buck getting the crap beat out of him.
After he's down for the count, her knight in shinning armor asks her if she's ok. Not knowing this guy at all, she isn't sure if she should trust him. When he asks her if she wants him to stay while she calls the police, she tells him "no police".
The guy doesn't understand why she wouldn't want to call the police, but seeing how shaken up she is, he offers to drive her home. She tries to resist, but after a few mins, she realizes she feels safe with him.

When she gets back to her dorm, she gets the text from Erin that she's not coming back tonight, so Jacqueline lays on her bed and cries the night away.

Next day in her Economics class, she sits in a new seat. She has no idea how she's going to make it through the rest of the semester with Kennedy right there.
When she's looking for a new seat, she notices the guy that helped her after the party. Not really wanting to make contact with him, she chooses the seat next to the sleepy guy (Benji is so cute! I love him!)

Jacqueline goes to see her professor after class in hopes to catch up from the last 2 weeks that she missed, including her midterm. yikes!
Luckily her teacher had a daughter, and had just gone through a broken heart herself, he took pitty on Jacqueline and gave her the chance to make things up. He gave her the email address of his tutor and told her to contact him ASAP.

And she did. When she stats emailing Landon, they have a semi professional/flirting going on. It's really cute, and fun, and she loves that he's so smart. But since their schedules don't fit together, the only way she's able to get caught up with is help, is through emails.

She starts to notice Lucas (The guy that helped her that night) all over the place. He seems to be working a lot of jobs here and there over the campus.
When Erin takes Jacqueline out to a club, and Lucas shows up and takes her out on the dance floor for many songs, Erin decides she is going to get Jacqueline and this bad boy together for a rebound. Jacqueline needs to get over Kennedy, and this is her ticket.

At first Jacqueline thought it was a good idea. She liked Lucas, and could see he was somewhat attracted to her..
She went to get a cup of coffee at the Starbucks that he worked at on campus, and gave her his phone number under he coffee cup.

Cute book I really enjoyed it. Lucas is a sweetheart and an all around good guy. But everyone has a past that haunts them.

Great book :) Loved it :)

Barely Breathing by Rebecca Donovan

Barely Breathing (The Breathing Series, #2)Barely Breathing by Rebecca Donovan
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I was trying to explain this series to a friend of mine... all I could come up with was it's deeply emotional, but it sucks you in and you just can't stop no matter what.
This is not a series you can stop and start and stop and start reading (like I do) The emotions dealing with Emma's abuse, and everything she is feeling is just so intense, it actually altered my mood for a couple of days. I couldn't stop reading though, even if I wanted to, it was hard to drag myself away.

Emma’s struggle with an abusive home life came to a heart pounding conclusion in the final chapters of Reason to Breathe. Now everyone in Weslyn knows Emma’s secret, but Carol can’t hurt Emma anymore. Some are still haunted by the horror of that night, and some must face the repercussions of their choices. Fans of Rebecca Donovan’s debut novel will discover there’s still much to learn about Emma’s life

Jen's Review-

Warning - If you  havn't read the first book, there may be some spoilers for it in this review

This book picks up about 6 months after Carol killed Emma - yes she died for a few mins, but Emma didn't remember much from that night, and that's the way she wanted it.
She kept George out of the charges since he didn't do anything to her, and that kept Lelya and Jack safe and happy while their mom went to jail.

Sara's parents got full custody of Emma until she turns 18. But when Rachelle, Emma's mom returns to Emma's life, sober, she wants a second chance at getting to know her.
Since Sara is going to California during the summer, she only has a few months to get to know her mother. So she moves in with her in hopes of getting to know her.

Now Rachelle, she's not a typical mom. She has no idea how to be a mom, so she asks Emma to call her Rachelle, and just hope they can be friends.
Rachelle is a drunk, she was sober for a little while, but now she's a "social" drinker. Emma has more freedom living with Rachelle, staying with Sara or even Evan, going out with her friends is not a problem. Rachelle however; had all the freedom in the world, because she still snuck in guys at night and went out after work.
Emma had a hard time sleeping through the night - the nightmares from her aunt still haunted her. And now having her mom bringing in her friends every night was about killing her sleeping all together.

When Rachelle told Emma she wanted to start dating a guy seriously, Emma was really happy for her.
Her first meeting with Jonathan was not a very good one. As Emma was coming out of the bathroom wrapped in a towel. But Jonathan didn't seem to mind carrying on a conversation with her.

Now we all love Evan and Emma - they're the PERFECT couple!
Now when Jonathan enters the picture, things start to change. Jonathan has been staying over with Rachelle for a while, so he knows about Emma's nightmares. Well he knows she wakes up screaming - Jonathan knows about her pain, shares her nightmares from when they were abused. So Jonathan helps Emma cope by telling her to come downstairs and watch TV to get her mind off the nightmare.
That's when Emma and Jonathan start to talk, and become friends. They can relate with each other in ways that they can't talk about with other people. And that's what Emma needed. Someone who didn't judge her for feeling the way she felt.

NOW Evan - he's trying hard to keep Emma happy. Trying to keep her head up. He had his doubts about Emma living with her mother, and he's been worried about her non stop - but since Emma doesn't talk to him about what's going on, he doesn't have a clue! She thinks she can handle things with her mom.. and when Rachelle gets super drunk and starts yelling at Emma about how worthless she is, Emma starts to get sucked down deeper and deeper about helping Rachelle, after all, it's Emma's fault, right?

Ugh - See that's why this book gets to me so much - because I can see how Emma can feel like it's her fault, but in reality, I'm screaming NO IT"S NOT!!!!! My heart broke over and over again in this book -

I am happy to be done with this series for now, but I am really looking forward to reading the next book :)

Reason To Breathe by Rebecca Donovan

Reason to Breathe (The Breathing Series, #1)Reason to Breathe by Rebecca Donovan
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book is a very emotional Young Adult book - lots of ups and downs. it has a good "real life" feel to it. I personally can't relate to the physical abuse as a teen, nor anything else in this book really, but the struggles and the trials, and the romance and the heartbreaks and the friendship and everything was just .. wow!

"No one tried to get involved with me, and I kept to myself. This was the place where everything was supposed to be safe and easy. How could Evan Mathews unravel my constant universe in just one day?"

He knows there’s something more to the girl sitting in the back of the class the moment he sees her. She’s beautiful, intelligent, and athletic – but she slips quietly through the crowded halls, trying not to exist. Determined to get to know the elusive girl, Evan soon discovers…

Emma Thomas is hiding a terrible secret.

Reason to Breathe is an electrifying page turner from start to finish, a unique tale of life-changing love, unspeakable cruelty, and one girl’s fragile grasp of hope

Jen's Review-

Holy Crap you cannot leave a book ending like that! WOW! That was a crazy ending - good thing there is a second book out already *whew*

Ok this book - I had no idea what to expect when I was recommended this book (Thanks Juls :) But wow - Defiantly worth the read :)

The book starts off with Emma struggling to keep away from her Aunt. Her Aunt despises her. she didn't do anything wrong. She didn't have to. She was disrupting the lives of her Aunt and that was enough...

And Emma knew it was wrong. After her father died, and her mother turned to drink, Emma went to live with her Uncle George. George is kind of blind to everything that's going on because Carol knows not to do anything with him around.

And because they have 2 of the cutest little children, ages 2 and 4 (I think) Jack and Lylia didn't need to know what was going on either. But poor Jack had seen and heard more than his little eyes and ears should have. But he loved his mom, and Carol was a good mother to her children. so for their sake, Emma kept her mouth shut and put up with it. She counted down the days until she turned 18 and graduated from high school.

Emma was a scholar student. AP classes, 4.0 average, she played on 3 varsity teams and was really good at it.. but she didn't like the attention at school. She kept to herself. Sara, her only friend since she had moved there 4 years ago. And yes, Sara knew what was going on in Emma's home life, but she didn't know how bad it was. and Emma wasn't going to let her know either.

Sara was her best friend. She was also the complete opposite of Emma. She shined where Emma tried her hardest to blend. Sara giggled and laughed and socialized where Emma refused to speak more then a few words to anyone else.

That is until Evan noticed her.
Evan is new to the school, and he saw how Emma shrank into the background, but there was something about her that sparked his interest. And for that. Emma didn't even have the chance to turn the other way once Evan sunk his gorgeous blue eyes on her.

Emma didn't want a boyfriend, she knew Carol would flip out if she got caught with one, so she did everything she could to turn Evan down. but that just made him try harder. He wasn't trying to date her, he just wanted to be her friend. And Sara had a feeling that Evan was a good guy. She did what she could to help Evan loosen up Emma's heart a little.

But Emma wasn't sure how to. She had never had a friend other than Sara, she had never been on a date or gone to a football game, let a lone a party.

But things started to change when Carol started getting annoyed a little too much with Emma. Emma was able to sleep over Sara's house on friday nights after the night time varsity soccer game, and since Carol didn't want Emma around on the weekends, She was able to stay over at Sara's house as long as she was home early enough to get her chores done the next day.

This was a good story. I was emotionally drained after reading it. I couldn't stop anywhere to put it down because it was really intense.

I enjoyed reading it though, and I'm looking forward to the next book :)

Jen's Review-
WOW! I'm not sure I can wait until Dec for the next book - what an ending!! Yes it's a cliffhanger - leaves it wide opened for the next book - but let me tell you - it will be worth it - I'm sure of it!

This book was great! I loved it! There were so many different "immortals" in here that there were no names for them all.

Royce *sigh* He's has got to be in the next book! I'm really hoping he and Faith are working together again.. Maybe he can even hook up with Bells!

Ok anyways -so the book starts off kind of quickly and full of alpha male testosterone.

When we start off, Jesminda and her Best friend are on vacation. They are at the beach and Jes feels these eyes on her. She looks up and sees this incredibly gorgeous guy watching her. She can't help but be flattered, but the intensity of his eyes shy's her away.

When the guy gets up to leave, Jes says she's had enough sunbathing. She wanted to go out closer to the beach. So she and her friend head out.

She couldn't stop thinking about the guy, and then all of a sudden he's right there.. looking down at her. he just came to say "hello" then he left again.

Draven shouldn't be looking at girls while he's on a case. He needed to keep his head in the game, but when he saw this girl, his Wolf jumped up and he couldn't control it. Now was not the time!

When he saw her again at the club he was meeting his client at, he couldn't stop himself from walking over to her. She was dancing in the corner and his wolf took over. He put his arms around her and molded his chest to her back. She tried to turn around but he wouldn't let her.
She knew who it was. she felt his presence. When he told her he wanted her, NOW, she couldn't think of a single reason why not. She was here for adventure. She had never had a one night stand before, so why not.

He lead her to the jungle outside the dance club, and had his way with her. When he was finished, she asked him again what his name was.... he told her he wouldn't be seeing her again so it didn't matter.
She figured as much.

The book is now 5 years later. but we get little flashbacks to Jes's story. She was heartbroken over her one night stand. so her and Bells left. When they were on the plane, she sat next to a man, Marcus.
They got to know each other and became friends. After some time, they started dating, and even though she was pregnant with someone else's baby, Marcus still wanted to keep Faith with him and raise the baby as his own.

Jes couldn't be happier, at least until after the baby was born, that's when the beatings and abuse started and things starting to get bad.

Marcus was dealing with some horrible illegal things, and Jes did everything she could to keep herself and her daughter Faith safe and alive. When she finally got the opportunity to sneak out, She runs to the Shadow Unit. Their kind of the Police of the immortals.

That's where the book starts off. Captain Dravaggio is prepping his team for the coming of Jesminda. He appointed Detective  Draven  Stone to babysit Jes and her daughter. Keep them safe until Marcus was caught and all his hostages were free.
Devon didn't want a babysitting job. he didn't even want to be here.
He took off. Jess entered the room and saw the Captain. DROOL!!!
She couldn't keep her eyes off him and all those thoughts. YIKES! Luckily we got to meet Royce, "Resident Badass, all around swell MF and every woman's dream come true". Royce has a twin brother Ronin - Now these guys can read minds, and believe me, Royce is thoroughly entertained by Jesminda's thoughts. He loves it! And Ronin, well let's just say he's a scary guy - and at the end of the book - WOW! Nuff said ... You'll know what I'm talking about when you get there.. trust me :)

OK so  Draven is out in the hallway, and he smells her. The same woman who he had that one night stand with. The one that he had dreamed about and couldn't get out of his head...
When he opened the door, the gloves came off. Jes wanted NOTHING to do with him. She refused to work with someone who didn't want to "babysit" her, and HIM especially.

When the captain saw how serious it was between the two, he added Royce in with the mix. Now Royce and  Draven  were to watch over Jes and bring her daughter back to the station and keep them safe from Marcus.

Things get a little spicy on the road and  Draven's wolf can't seem to keep his eyes off of her. Luckily they have Royce there who can read both their pornographic minds and tells them both enough is enough already.

When Draven meets Faith for the first time, we see the cuteness of a 5 year old cub/child and her first instincts with her new dad. Can you say "awe" I really love a story that involves children :) They're so cute - especially if they have a little werewolf inside them :)

It's cute, it's sweet and it's a fun story.
I loved just about everything in it. From the shoot outs, to the zombies?? ok, I'm not a huge zombie fan, but they died easily :)

But they were probably the ONLY thing that died easily. One slice off their head and they were gone. Whew -

But like I said, great story - I really enjoyed reading this one. I can't wait for the next one to come out.

Enslaved In Shadows (Shadow Unit, #1)

Now who wants to win a copy of this e-book?

“Stop trying to bait me.” She stepped away from him to the other side of the elevator. Gabe had a wide smile on his face as well and stood with his hands behind his back teetering on the soles of his boots. The elevator dinged and the three of them stepped inside facing the front. As the doors began to close a very angry Draven was peering at them through the glass of the conference room he didn’t look happy at all.
“You know if you tell him,” Jesminda said under her breath. “I will see to it personally you and your man parts meet with a very dear friend of mine.” Let him read that from her mind and see if he still wanted to open his mouth. She looked him straight in the eyes, amber darkened to deep orange.
“Careful, you might find I quite enjoy a dose of pain with my pleasure. You, dear handling my junk bring nothing but salacious intentions to my brain and its receptive pleasure neurons.”
What was with these guys and their subtle and not so subtle come-ons? You would think they’d never been in the presence of a female before. She knew that wasn’t it. Royce tilted the corners of his mouth. The bastard was way too full of himself for his own good.
“I had a very up close and personal relationship with my father so the term bastard does not apply.”
Jesminda grinned.

I have to say I was really impressed - After reading The Vincent Boys (book one) about Beau and Ashton's story, I thought the second story wouldn't be that good - I don't know why I thought that, because I was totally wrong.

He may have given her up without a fight, but Sawyer Vincent is far from over losing the girl he’s loved all of his life. Instead of giving up his best friend and the girl he thought he’d spend forever with, he gave Ashton and his brother Beau his blessing. However, adjusting to seeing Ashton wrapped up in Beau’s arms isn’t easy. Complicating everything even more, Ashton’s cousin Lana is in town for the summer. Sweet, kind, soft-spoken Lana, who gets under his skin. Just being near her makes him forget all about Ashton and his broken heart. Lana is everything he wanted Ashton to be except she isn’t Ashton. She lacks the backbone to stand up for herself and confidence that Ashton wears like a crown.

Lana McDaniel has lived her life in her cousin's shadow. While Lana struggled with her grades no matter how hard she tried, her mother praised Ashton's intelligence. She hadn’t been blessed with Ashton’s blond hair and flawless skin, but that didn't keep her mother from lamenting her naturally red hair and freckles. But none of that would have mattered if Ashton hadn’t always had Sawyer Vincent wrapped around her finger -- the only boy Lana wanted. Once Ashton let Sawyer go, Lana had been so sure that he’d move on. Determined to make Sawyer finally see her, she'd talked her mother into letting her spend the summer with Ashton. But Sawyer is still in love with Ashton, and Lana isn’t going to be anyone's rebound girl. No matter how yummy Sawyer Vincent’s kisses taste.

Jen's Review-

Sawyer's story is Great! I loved it!
In the last book we saw Sawyer as not a very nice guy. He didn't put Ashton's needs first, didn't do anything about making her not happy with her new attitude, and practically took her away from Beau without talking to Beau first and making things crazy between the two that were really meant to be together..

This book takes place 6 months later, and Sawyer still can't let her go. Sure he stood aside and gave them both his blessing, but it didn't mean it didn't hurt still. He tried to avoid them being together as much as possible - but he did want to try to move on.

After a few heated words with Beau at the field's party, Sawyer, Ethan and Jake took off to go get something to eat. Instead of heading close to a local restaurant, Sawyer headed to the nearest town..

Lana - She is Ash's cousin. She stayed with her last summer when her parent's were going through a difficult time. Now her parents were officially divorced. She couldn't get over Sawyer while she was back home. and now that everyone is graduated from High school, she has arranged to spend her last Summer with Ashton before they head their separate ways off to College.
Lana had gotten herself a make over. She is no longer looking like the little mouse she did last summer. She got her hair cut, a whole new wardrobe, and now wears make up.

Her friend Jewl was giving her a ride to her cousin's house before heading to her beach house where her stepfather lived.
THey stopped at Wings to get a bite to eat, just outside the small town of Alabama that her cousin lived in.

When Sawyer walked in Wings with his friend, he tried flirting with the hostess a little, but after hearing her giggle, he quickly turned the other way. Ash didn't giggle, he hated giggling.
As they walked to the table, he noticed the girl at the bar with the long legs and dark red hair. He didn't think she'd giggle, when Ethan said something to Sawyer loudly, the girl turned her head around, and he really liked what he saw.
He started walking towards their table, when she called out to him.

That's when he recognized her. Lana - Ashton's cousin.
He asked her and her friend Jewel to sit with them. Jewel was the total opposite as Lana. She was beautiful, fun and flirted with everyone.
As the seats were arranged in the booth, Lana found herself sitting next to Ethan, and Jewel was seated between Jake and Sawyer. She wasn't happy about the way Jewel was flirting with Sawyer. She loved her friend, but she was anxious to get to Ash's house and have her friend be on her way to the beach.

Ethan seemed to like Lana though. He was really sweet. So sweet it about drove Sawyer nuts. He couldn't keep Jewel's hands off his thigh, and his eyes off Lana - he couldn't believe that this was the same girl that was here just 6 months ago.

SO they left - Sawyer had offered to bring Lana home so Jewel could be on her way to the beach. Lana was excited about that.
He dropped of Jake and Ethan back at their trucks and took Lana to Ashton's house.

On the way, Lana asked how things were between the three of them. She knew he wouldn't be over Ash, but she had hoped things were ok.
But Sawyer still saw Lana as a girl that helped Ash and Beau out in the field last Summer when she lied for her.

The rest of the ride was quiet until they got to the house.

..... "She's an idiot... for what it's worth," I couldn't believe I'd just said that.
Sawyer swung his attention back to me. "You think so?"
I nodded.
Sawyer took a step closer to me... "You think I'm a better choice than Beau? Hes' the bad one, the Dangerous one. Girls like bad boys." he took another step closer. his eyes never leaving their study of my lips.
Forcing myself to remain calm, I responded, "Not all girls."
"hummm.."
He raised his hand and gently ran the pad of his thumb over my bottom lip "they're as soft as they look... maybe softer," he whispered, then he lowered his head and before I could take a calming breath his mouth was on mine.

The relationship between Lana and Sawyer heated up pretty quickly. This is a new Sawyer. not the same polite and easy going Sawyer we knew from the last book. This Sawyer is tired of being hurt, and for some reason he couldn't explain, Lana made him forget about Ash, and he felt a powerful draw to Lana. He acted like a teenage guy in Lust should. And it was great getting to know him :)

Loved this book - it's a great series and I really recommend it. I don't think it's a "young adult" book though... But it's still going on my favorite shelf :)

A Demon And His Witch by Eve Langlais

A Demon And His Witch (Welcome To Hell, #1)A Demon And His Witch by Eve Langlais
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is the beginning of a really FUN series! I can't wait for more!!
You all know how much both Chas and I love a good Eve Langlais book :) This one doesn't Disappoint!

Burning alive is nothing compared to the heat of his touch.

Roasted at the stake as a witch, while her lover watches, Ysabel sells her soul to the devil in return for revenge. A fair trade until her ex-boyfriend escapes the bowels of Hell and she’s forced to team up with a demon to fetch the jerk back.

Remy’s seen a lot of things during his long tenure in Lucifer’s guard, but nothing can prepare him for the witch with the acerbic tongue--and voluptuous figure. Her mouth says ‘Screw you’, but her body screams ‘Take me’. What’s a poor demon to do when his heart makes things even more complicated by goading him to make her his, forever?

Before he can decide if his demonizing days are done though, he needs to catch the bad guys, save the girl and then find a way to convince her to love him and not kill him.

Welcome to Hell where you’re screwed if you do and damned if don’t. And just so you know, Lucifer’s got a special spot reserved for you…

Jen's Review:

Lucifer has got to be the best character out there! I have never before thought I would love this guy, but hey - Eve Langlais does an awesome job at making him so great.

If you haven't read the Princess from Hell series, (click to see my review of this trigology) I recommend it - Lucifer is still involved with our very own Mother Nature in this series, and he mentions his daughters in a few places and the battle with Lilith. It's not necessary to read the series for this one, but it just makes this series that much better :)

Ok but the book isn't ABOUT Lucifer - no, he plays a BIG part in it, but it's not his story. This story is about a Witch, (he calls her his little Witch so much I can't even remember her real name!) Ysabel! Sorry - Anyways, She is a witch and back in the time (500 years before the story takes place) she was a good witch. She used her potions and spells to help aid the townsfolk of sickness, finding love, etc.. but what did that get her??? Burning at the stake! Why?? Because she fell in love.
But as she was burning, she looked over and saw that he didn't love her. He wasn't even trying to save her.. and for that - she spat out the one curse her grandmother told her never to use.. She Damned them all to Hell -

Now it's almost been 500 years, and she is Lucifer's personal assistant. She does a lot of file work and keeping the office in working order. No one likes her. Ysabel is not an easy person to work with. Especially if you're a man. She has held the grudge of her beloved Francisco for 500 years and any man who tries, will get what he deserves. Her magic has intensified while living in Hell, so everyone is in danger of her.

Lucifer secretly loved picking fights with her. They would argue back and forth, But only behind closed doors. He tried to keep her on her toes, and in return she constantly battled with him.

But at this time, as her contract was coming to an end, and she'd be free of her assistant job working for Lucifer, a part of her contract stopped her from enjoying it.
5 of the Damned souls that she put in Hell's prison had escaped! And until those Damned Souls were back in prison, she would live out her death every day until they were caught. Each day a minute of being burnt alive longer than the day before. And the chance of going mad from the pain.

Ysabel wasn't a tracker, she had no idea how she could do this..

"I've got a video of you doing the Macarena."
He scowled. "I hate you. You're just like another pesky daughter to me. Fine. Twist my arm. I'll give you a tracker to use. But it will cost you."
She arched a brow.
"Or not. Now Get out."

So with that, In Enters Remy -
*sigh* Oh Remy -
Now Remy is half demon half human - and he is Built like a god - Or a Demon Warrior ,which is what he is. And he's one of the best Warriors in hell.. also one of the best "panty droppers" out there as well. He loves the women, and settling down just isn't in his vocabulary.
That is until he sees the little witch up close..

See another reason I really love Eve's characters is because they're NOT all perfect. She makes her woman realistic. Not the perfect barbie doll looks - they're all curvy, big beautiful woman and most often with a really sassy mouth!
And this warrior LOVES everything about her.. Her sassy mouth included.
You've GOT to read this though - The way these two go at it it just too funny to pass up. I love it!

"it's your lucky day. Lucifer has informed me that you're my next assignment."
"Not by choice. And what are you suppose to do exactly? I need a tracker, not a gigolo. What happened? Did you gig as a pole dance not work out? Equipment too small?"

ROFLOL - Just wait til you read about Remy riding on back of Ysabel's broomstick :)

Too cute - big promise at the end for a next great book - A Demon and his Phycho! Really looking forward to that one

Any Man of Mine by Rachel Gibson

Any Man of Mine (Chinooks Hockey Team, #6)Any Man of Mine by Rachel Gibson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is the 6th book of the Chinook HockeyTeam Series -

And this series just keeps getting better and better - I'm not sure if this will be the last book of the series -I hope not. But it was a fun way to end a series ...

WHAT HAPPENS IN VEGAS . . .

DOESN'T ALWAYS STAY THERE.

Autumn Haven's Las Vegas "to-do" list said to catch a show and play the slots—not wake up married to a sexy jerk like Sam Leclaire. The first moment she saw him eyeing her like a luscious piece of the dessert buffet, her usually responsible self told her run. And she did—right into the wildest fantasy weekend of her life. But Monday morning jolted her back to reality and before she could say "pass the coffee" Sam was gone.
Now a successful wedding planner, Autumn hasn't clapped eyes on the heart-breaking hockey superstar for over two years... until she organizes his teammate's "Special Day," where Sam makes a BIG play to pick up where he left off! But she has vowed any man of hers plays for keeps. Is Sam the man for her or does she banish him to the sin bin forever?

Jen's Review:

Well this book has a lot of my favorites - First there's The Hockey - Sam is in a few of the other books and getting to know him was so much fun!
Next there is his 5 year old son, Conner - what a cutie he is!
Then there's a lot of other characters involved in weddings and pregnancies from previous books -

Sam - He flirted a lot with Chelsea in the last book :) Just to make Mark mad :) But it was all in fun. That's how Sam operated. Just a fun guy.
But he has a past, and every June 13th, his guilt and pain over come him. He drowns his sorrows in getting drunk and having sex -

That's why, 6 years earlier when Sam saw the redhead across the dance floor with one arm above her head and the other around her waist, he couldn't resist walking up behind her and placing his hands on her waist. Sure she put up a little fight, but there was something about her that drew Sam to her. And he didn't know what it was, but he was in need to forget his pain, so he didn't bother with the "why"

Autumn was lonely. She had just spent a couple years taking care of her sick mom until she passed away. Her brother was off fighting in the war and she didn't have anyone else around.
So she deserved this vacation to Vegas - but what she found there instead was more than she had on her "to do" list....

6 years later, Conner is Autumn's pride and joy, and her brother Vince is there to help her. But she remembers when she was alone after Sam left her, and alone when she was sick with her pregnancy. Alone giving birth, she had finally contacted Sam's Lawyer to tell him he had a son.
Although Sam took on the responsibility of making sure Autumn and Conner had enough money so they didn't have to struggle, he very seldom visited. Autumn ran her own successful Event Planning Business.Just so she knew she could take care of her son in case Sam wasn't around anymore.

The book starts off with Autumn putting on the wedding of Ty Savage and Faith Duffy. And of Course Sam will be there.. They hadn't seen each other in 2 years. Always Sam's Assistants picked up Conner and dropped him off. and Autumn was fine with that.
She hated him, she hated him so much, especially when he had to call and cancel his weekends with Conner, or when he broke a promise, she was always there to pick up the pieces.
But after awhile, she stopped hating him. She didn't love him anymore, she didn't feel anything for Sam. And that's the way she liked it.

When Sam dropped off Conner, he had gotten the many phone calls from Autumn. He knew she was angry they were late, but he didn't realize how worried she was.
After sending Conner into the house, she let him have it. She opened Sam's eyes up and got him to see how he was treating his son.
When she mentioned that Conner looked up to him and cried himself to sleep when Sam broke his promises or canceled out on his visitation.

And that broke Sam's heart. Out of everything she said to him, that was what stuck. His own father was a lousy dad, but he was great at his job.. just like Sam... but Sam knew better and needed to change things.

So Sam made it his priority to make seeing Conner and taking on his responsibilities. but he didnt' realize that seeing more of Conner, meant seeing more of Autumn ...

This was a good story. Autumn was so hurt from Vegas, she had a really hard time letting it go. She couldn't forgive or forget the pain she went through and being so scared. so she locked herself up tight and refused to let Sam back into her life.

Sam was happy with his life on the road with his Hockey. the Girls the drinking, but when he and Autumn started getting along, becoming friends, even though he didn't remember a whole lot from that trip to Vegas, he was starting to see why he was so attracted to her. She wasn't beautiful like the woman he usually dated, but she was attractive enough. But there was something there that made him all warm and fuzzy inside :)

Like I said I loved this story. It was cute with Conner asking all his 5 year old questions :)

I'm sad to see this series come to an end, but I'm now curious about Rachel Gibson's other books in her series now :)

Nothing but Trouble by Rachel Gibson

Nothing But Trouble (Chinooks Hockey Team, #5)Nothing But Trouble by Rachel Gibson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Book 5 of the Chinook Hockey series - I wasn't sure I'd like this one - I'm not a big fan of those celebrity types that get hurt and hold a grudge against the world, but Mark's story was different ...

Chelsea Ross' acting career has been a total bust. The closest she ever came to stardom was her brilliant performance as "Pretty Dead Girl #1." But leaving Hollywood to become the personal assistant to a famous hockey player could be her stupidest career move ever.

More Trouble...

Injured superstar Mark Bressler's glory days are over. The bad-boy ex-jock could at least be civil to the pint-sized, pink-haired bombshell who the Seattle Chinooks hired to be his P.A. If Chelsea didn't need the money, she'd be running from the world's biggest jerk as fast as her feet could carry her.

Big Trouble!

Chelsea can deal with Mark's rotten attitude and dark moods. The problem is those biceps and that red-hot bod! And when the bad boy starts to put the moves on her, Chelsea knows it's time she banished him to the penalty box...if only she could resist the kind of trouble he has in mind

Jen's Review:

We start off with Mark at the press conference the day after the team won the Stanley Cup - Mark didn't want to be there.. He had his good days and his bad days, this was a bad day. He hurt, a lot - and he didn't think he should be there. Sure he brought the team to the playoffs, and for 6 years he was the captain of the team. The players respected him and knew that Mark was suppose to be there. But Mark couldn't help but feel let down. He should have been out on the ice playing. But since his accident, he could hardly move without pain.

The Chinook's team kept sending health care workers to his house. He hated having to depend of people to help him out. So he did what he could to make them quit since he couldn't fire them. He had been taking care of himself for so long, he didn't need help. And he certainly didn't want it.

When Chelsea showed up at Mark's door, she had been warned about his bad attitude and trying to get rid of her. The team had bribed her with $10,000 bonus if she could stay with Mark for 3 months.
She needed that money for her breast reduction. So she put her acting skills to work, and made Mark let her inside.

She had told him that she wasn't a health care provider, she was an assistant. She had worked for celeberties before, and knew how their attitudes were. So she was ready for Mark.

But Mark wasn't ready for her. He still didn't want her around. But once she started making her way into his dreams, he couldn't shut her out.

She was helping him get better, both physically and mentally, and he started to like having her spunky little attitude hanging around.

Things started heating up between them, but Chelsea couldn't keep up her feelings for him when she was working for him.. well he wasn't paying her, but she was still working for him.. and she couldn't forget about the bonus she would be getting in 3 months.

He found ways to keep his distance from her.
But once when he was sleeping, she came to the chaise he was laying on and tried to wake him up. Still thinking he was dreaming, he pulled her down to him. And kissed her.
Tired of fighting the attraction, she let him.

Things weren't very pleasant after that, but the attraction was still there.

Great book - I loved how Mark found himself in here. When Chelsea came to his house, he was at his darkest. He was about as low as he could feel. But Chelsea brought the sunshine back into his life.

Looking forward to the last book - Sam's story - then again, not looking forward to it being the last story :(
