Beast Behaving Badly by Shelly Laurenston

Beast Behaving Badly (Pride, #5)Beast Behaving Badly by Shelly Laurenston

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This has got to be one of the best books I've read in a LONG time! I LOVED this story!!!

o Novikov--part polar bear, part lion, pure alpha male--can't leave Blayne Thorpe alone. He's determined to protect her from stalkers who want to use her in shifter dogfights, even if he has to drag her off to an isolated Maine town where the only other neighbors are bears almost as crazy as he is.

I'm going to try quoting here - because let me tell you, These guys had me LOL-ing so much, I even laughed in public while I was waiting for my kids! oh wow!

Jen's Review

OK this book - We have Blayne and Bo Novikov - And wow! Ok I'm reading these books out of order, but - yeah =

OK Bo Novikov is the star of the Carnivores Hockey Team - he's kind of a .. one person player - when he's on the ice - it's HIS puck, and no one better take it away from him, because he will do WHATEVER it takes to get it back - And he's not very nice about it. Luckily these guys are all shifters and can handle this kind of abuse - but wow.

And another thing- Bo has OCD - if he has something down on his schedule, it's going to get done when it's suppose to get done. not a minute later, not a minute sooner - and that's the way he's lived his whole life.

Ok So Blayne - she's so sweet, funny and really really ditzy! And most of all, she's ALWAYS late! Part of it is because she wears her broken watch all the time.. why? Because it looks cute. Which TOTALLY drives Bo crazy!

But when the book starts off, it's like 10 years earlier- Blayne was at the hockey game, and when Novikov's eyes met hers from the ice, she was afraid. His cold eyes just bored into hers. He has a reputation for attacking fans who get too close, but Blayne didn't do anything wrong. She couldn't figure out why this Polar Bear/Lion Hybrid was targeting her! And she was very scared!!!!

Slowly, not to startle him, she got up and walked down the isle. He followed her on the ice. when she got to the exit, she half expected him to chase after her, but he didn't. and whew - she got away...

So here it is now, 10 years later, and she's back at the rink watching the game, and his eye catches her. He stares at her.. she freaks out, but she's older now, stronger now, and not going to run away.. She'd done her research on serial killers, not that she had proof he was one, but a girl could never be too careful

Finally after who knows how long, he glided back from her, gave her one last hard look, and skated back to his team.
After the game, Blayne headed to the bathroom to catch her breath. When suddenly the hinges of the door ripped off and in walks Novikov. "Now we can talk."
She was staring at him with fear in her eyes. She wanted out of the bathroom. "You'll never take me alive! I'll never let you get me to a secondary location!" She screamed.
Bo shrugged. "Okay."
With a horrified gasp, she stepped back "You're gonna kill me here?"

Should he be entertained by this? Why was he entertained? "I actually wasn't planning on killing you at all"
Her eyes narrowed. "You’re not going to kiss me, skin me, and wear my head as a hat?"
Yep, He was entertained. And no. It wasn't normal.

Ok so instead he asks her to coffee, and as she walks out of the bathroom, she says "God no" - But it wasn't until the wolfdog suddenly stopped in the middle of the hallway and spun around to face him one more time that Bo realized he could never assume that the words coming out of her mouth and what she actually meant were one and the same when she admitted "Because I hate coffee!" She laughed" I realized I hadn't actually finished my thought. I do that sometimes. Sorry. Anyways, hate the taste of coffee and caffeine is so not this wolfdog's friend> She gave him a smile so bright that it nearly seared his eyes.

Ok so next we have Blayne talking with her best friend Gwyne. Ok now Gwen lets it slip that Blayne sucks at Roller Derby, where they play in the same stadium as the hockey team does. Blayne just couldn't believe that she was all that bad, but when Gwen tells her that she's not suppose to say "Sorry" when she knocks a girl down, or be polite when plowing into someone.

So Blayne doesn't know how to be mean.. but she knows someone who does.

She has no choice but to blame Bo for everyone thinking she doesn't play well. "What did I do?" Bo asked.

"You're an a$$hole!"

"You don't even know me."

"On the ice. You're an a$$ on the ice and now everyone want to be a$$holes! That's expected now! - and because I'm not an a$$hole, I'm suffering! Your Fault!"

Yeah - she has things mixed up, but she actually believes what she thinks a lot of the time.

But most of all, I really love that they disagree on just about everything! And we get to hear it all from Bo's POV and hear what he's thinking about how crazy her logic sounds!

So, she traps Bo into helping her train with her Roller Derby and become less good, moral, loving Blayne, and more evil, and sadistic and what does he get out of it? She agreed to help him get a social life. HA!

That's the last thing Bo needed - he had schedules to keep, and helping her train wasn't on his schedule.

He agreed to ONE hour, but that was it. And he told her to be on time!

So when she showed up a half hour early the next morning, he got mad at her. Because 7:00 meant 7:00 - not 6:30, not 7:02 , but 7:00 - and so she waited for him.

They trained together and got to know each other. I cannot express how funny this book is though.

There is more to the story though. Someone is kidnapping Hybrid shifters and using them in Pits for fights, like they did for those Pit bull fights. And someone found out that Blayne's name had been sold, so they put a tracker on her to keep her safe.

So when Bo and Blayne were heading out to dinner one night after practice, and someone shot Bo with a dart and dragged Blayne out the door - things pick up pretty quickly.

But I have to say the best part about this book, not just because of how funny it is, but it's when Bo shifted . Now in his human form he's a 7 foot 1 almost 400 lb Gorgeous guy that never smiles, which makes him more scary then gorgeous.

But when he shifts, he's a hybrid breed. Half lion, and half polar bear. So when they describe what he looks like when he shifts - I fell in love with him in a whole new way :)

Gotta read this book! You'll love it!

I'm very pleased to see some of these covers.  I'm especially intrigued with the novellas by Sarah J. Maas and super excited with the premise of what's to be expected in book one.  I've ordered the first two novella's on Amazon and looking forward to reading it.  As for right now I can barely manage keeping my eyes open.  I need to crash so see you all!

Bear meets Girl by Shelly Laurenson

Bear Meets Girl (Pride, #7)Bear Meets Girl by Shelly Laurenston

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

We all know how I feel about those bear shifters, right? Usually the books are of Kodak bears, or Grizzlies, But the book had the most incredible, loveable, honest, and grumpy Polor bear I have ever read about!

He's big, burly, and way smarter than your average shapeshifting bear. He's also about to get trapped by own his game. . .
Lou Crushek is a reasonable, mellow, easygoing kind of guy. But once someone starts killing the scumbags he works so hard to bust, that really gets under his fur. Especially when that someone is a curvy she-tiger with a skill set that's turning Crush's lone-bear world upside down--and bringing his passion out of hibernation. . .
As a member of an elite feline protection unit, Marcella Malone has no problem body-dropping anyone who hunts her kind. But Crush is proving one major pain in her gorgeous tail. The only reason she's joined forces with him is to track down the wealthy human who's got her entire species in his ruthless sights. It sure isn't because Crush's stubborn and contrary attitude is rubbing Cella in all the right ways. . .

Jen's Review

Ok this is the first book of this series I've read- unfortunately it's book #7 - so in the beginning I was a little confused about who was whom..

In this book there is a LOT of extra characters - I'm assuming those that are married, or already have mates were from previous stories (Which I'll be reading more of this weekend :) But after awhile, things fell in to place and it all made sense. It explained who was whom, and even though there were a lot of different names mentioned, I figured it all out, and LOVED this story ...

We start off with Crush waking up in the morning - who knew those jello shots would be so dangerous.
Not only was he hung over, but he was naked, in bed with a feline -

Cella - she is suppose to be an Irish Siberian Tiger shifter... Which I love how they look - But she has the sassiest temper anywhere! And like she says , "don't try to understand her friendship with Smith, just except it"
I love her sassy mouth, always getting herself in fights - see Cella is a member of the KZS - now I'm sure if I read another book before this one, I'd know more about this operation. So we'll skip it for now :)

Anyways - but that's kind of a side job to her, her real job is being an Enforcer for the Carnivores Hockey team - She is to keep Novikov safe on the ice so he can score. He's a great player, but he sucks when it comes to anyone else. Cella is the only one besides his mate who he can tolerate. So she has her work cut out for her.

Crush is a cop - he's a good guy, always playing by the law. When his boss at the NYPD (who was scared to death of Crush anyways) told him he was transferring to another division (the Shifter's Division) Crush wasn't happy. He doesn't like change. Polars don't like change. But what else could he do about it.

Ugh I'm telling this review wrong!

So ok - back to the morning they wake up together, Cella just can't help but mess with the Polar's mind. They were both too drunk to do anything the night before, and he was too much of a gentleman to try to sneak out of bed without knowing the truth.
When he did finally leave, he made his way home, then to his new job. he wasn't looking forward to it at all.

Cella had gone out to work out, until Smith (not sure the whole relationship with these two, they're moral enemies, and yet they've save each other's lives too many time times, so they're best friends *shrug*) came and got her to bring her into the station. Cella works for the KZS, but she also works with the shifter's police department.

When they got to the station, Cella saw her bear, and ran and jumped on his lap.. Now Crush is too polite to dump her off his lap, but he's really annoyed at how affectionate she is with him. And Cella knew how much she was annoying him, so she kept it up. lol

That night at the hockey game, Crush ran into Cella again. This time while she was in her Hockey gear, and talking with none other than Novikov. She introduced them and Crush was tongue tied. He didn't even realize that Cella was none other than "Bare Knuckled Malone", and now he was there talking with Novikov!

And even better when Cella brought Crush to the owner's box to watch the game with her father "Nice Guy Malone" Crush's all time favorite Hockey Hero! Crush didn't know how to act around this man. But Nice Guy Malone sure took to Crush.

When Cella came home from her jog the next day, her family was acting strange again.. her best friend Jia told her that her Aunts were planning on fixing her up with her second cousin twice removed in order to get her out of the funk she was in.. Only Cella couldn't be happier than she was right now..

So they went over to Crush's house to talk to him into being her Pretend boyfriend.

Loved this!! But that wasn't all there was. Of course there was some crazy stuff going on with Hunter's drugging and hunting Shifter's and stuffing and mounting them as trophies,

Then there was a bunch of strange Bears hanging around that no one seemed to know.

It was crazy! I love this book! I hope all the other's have just as good a sense of humor as this one.

I'm going to start with book one now - I believe that's MacDermot’s story :) Or maybe I'll skip around. I want to read about Novikov's story :)

Review: Evermine (Daughters of Askara #2) by Hailey Edwards

February 21st 2012            Evermine (Daughters of Askara #2) by Hailey Edwards
February 21st 2012
He can be a slave to his past…or allow her love to free him.

There’s such a thing as too much change. Emma’s sister is mated. Revolution is brewing in her home realm. The last straw: her would-be mate is back from the dead and back under her skin—yet when it comes to the last five years, he’s not talking.

Desperate for a chance to start her own life, she answers the queen’s call to ensure equality for all of Askara’s newly freed slaves. It’s the perfect opportunity to escape a heartbreak in the making named Harper.

Harper loses a piece of his fractured soul when Emma walks away. His lies were meant to protect her from torturous years that drove him to the point of madness. Instead, when he comes to her a year later to help avert a crisis in a freed-slave community, the wedge those lies drove between them is firmly in place.

As their new lives collide with old wounds, they race to stop a threat that could not only destroy the queen, but send Harper back to the hell he escaped. Emma must decide if the man she still loves deserves equal rights to her heart.

Product Warnings
This title contains torn pants, ripped gowns, and sand in uncomfortable places. It also includes one overcompensating villain, one gnarly priest, and two battered hearts willing to give this thing called love one last chance.

LLLKINDLE 60x90Chas's Review:
Overall Rating: 4/5 stars

Evermine continues the tale started in Everlong and I'm happy to have read the two titles back to back.  My first thoughts went tot he cover of Evermine because Emma has curly blonde hair and not the straight features.  It's peanuts to think of but a thought present nonetheless. Jumping into the storyline, which I enjoyed very much, contains real conflicts.  In this world glamour is a tool, a shield, and even a weapon.  Both Emma and Harper alike have been through the wringer.  Harper, thought to be dead for five years is back.  In book one it came as a shock to me that he was in love with Emma and not whom I originally thought the Author was building up to.  However, Emma is an amazing character and I've quickly come to love her and want to see her happy.  So when she avoids 'who' will make her most happy for a year I want nothing more than to read of a reunion.  And that is what readers will receive- yay!

My previous worries about book one were the voice (age) of the characters, timeline and setting.  I will say that those worries have been settled.  All in all, absolutely entertaining to read and I look forward to more.
