Break Out (Blood Hunter #1) by Nina Croft
The year is 3048, Earth is no longer habitable, and man has fled to the stars where they’ve discovered the secret of immortality—Meridian. Unfortunately, the radioactive mineral is exorbitantly expensive and only available to a select few. A new class comprised of the super rich and immortal soon evolves. The Collective, as they’re called, rule the universe.

Two-thousand-year-old Ricardo Sanchez, vampire and rogue pilot of the space cruiser, El Cazador, can’t resist two things: gorgeous women and impossible jobs. When beautiful Skylar Rossaria approaches him to break a prisoner out of the Collective’s maximum security prison on Trakis One, Rico jumps at the chance. Being hunted by the Collective has never been so dangerous–or so fun!

I absolutely love my sci-fi romance and Nina Croft certainly knows how to deliver.  Skyler and Rico share steamy chemistry and it's explored throughout the novel.  The building of their relationship from steamy to steamy with substance is well written.  Even side characters like Tannis is well laid out for readers to enjoy.

Skyler is working undercover and her first assignment takes her to El Cazador de la Sangre, a spaceship owned by Rico and captained by Tannis.  Rico is a a vampire or Blood Hunter which happens to be the Spanish name for his spaceship.  Skyler boards the ship with the pretense to hire Rico and his crew to save her boyfriend out of Trakis One.  Problem arises that it has never been successfully infiltrated before and even more so it's unlikely to get out alive.  Skyler knows that it's risky for them but her job is to get the spaceship and its pilot there.  With the allure of funds, Rico and Tannis wearily take the job.  And, everything begins from there.

Despite Skyler's trained skills, Rico knows she hiding something and he's eager than ever to discover those secrets along with shedding a few choice clothing items.
All in all, I enjoyed reading Break Out.  Vampires and Pirates in space make for quite the adventure.
