Violet Jordan's Rule #3 of being a superhero: Family first, fur second.

Dear Diary,

With new supernatural creatures popping up at every turn (Ghouls? Really?), the city divided, and my long-lost cousin blazing into town, I've got a lot on my mind. Oh, not to mention I'm supposed to be planning a wedding. Chaz has got to be the best, most patient (and probably clinically insane) fiancÉ around.

But defeating my sworn enemy in a battle for the souls of Dallas is going to require more than just my full attention. It means learning to depend on everyone—especially Chaz—if any of us are going to make it out of this alive. Because if Plan A doesn't work, I'm going to need them for Plan B. And Plan C . . .

Amanda Arista, Author-Something about you of interest (this one is always so hard)

Outside of what happens in my head, I’m really not an exciting person. I’m not a butt-kicking necromancer who eats danger for breakfast. I’m a writer and I don’t usually even have breakfast. I’m an education coordinator, a wife, and a rock awesome aunt (I’m the one that gives your kids all the sugar they want and then send them home). But there is something about me that filters in through all my books. I’m adopted. And time after time I’m writing books about a young girl who figures out where she belongs.

Mine is a simple story. Two married people couldn’t have children. A young, brave woman chose them to family her daughter. I know who my mother is. I know who I am, but the story is still embedded within me. I guess that because my original story is different from others, that my view of family is different from how other might define family.

The main character of the Diaries series, Violet Jordan, had an interesting way of finding her own family and it started in the back alley of her town home as she protected her trash from a rogue golden retriever. Lets call that her call to adventure. And after finding out that she was going to turn fuzzy once a month and that she was prophesied to resurrect a demon, Violet had a choice: to hide away or protect those who she found in her inner circle.

Now, how many of us have friends that we would do something stupid for? Personally, I have a friend I threw a cake at her ex-boyfriends car after a pretty heinous break up. I’ve never done anything that stupid for my brother. That friend is who I call my family because I know that when it hits the fan, she’d be there with the umbrella.

Violet feels the same way about her friends and the other shifters she finds along the way. She puts her neck out on the line for them because they gave her what she needed more than anything: a family.

I’m not going to lie to you and say that being adopted has changed the way I look at life; it has. But it is an interesting fact that shapes my life and makes my heroines a little more open to who they open their heart to.

Have you ever done something stupid for your friends? Leave a comment and along with a daily giveaway, enter to win a Diaries of an Urban Panther gift set at the conclusion of the Nine Lives blog tour, running August 20th to September 3rd. See my website for details.

Hi Amanda, I haven't read any of your awesome looking books, by the way I love that cover of Nine Lives of an Urban Panther. I loved your spill about yourself, I'm like that too being the rocking aunt and of course grandma - I love spoiling them and then sending them home too - ha ha.

For your question, yes I have done some crazy stupid things for my friends when I was young like call a guy and act like I was them and flirt over the phone with the guy (we'd be giggling in the background). Then the next day we'd be to shy to even look at the guy - LOL

But as I got older, I'm a disabled veteran now but there have been times where my protectiveness is stronger than my own family ties.

Your book sounds great and I will be adding it to my To Read list.

I'm now offically stalking you on facebook and twitter.

I follow this blog through GFC

I think we were pretty tame. I can't remember anything really outrageous that we would do for each other back in high school other than yell or tell of exboyfriends or just exfriends in general. I haven't had any weird experiences lately either.

Thanks guys for the comments. Yeah, I did some crazy stuff, not nessesarily to protect my friends, but at least make them laugh when they were down. I'm all about the power of laughter.
Hope you guys enjoy!

I haven't read any of your books before. I would love to read them. I have never done something stupid for friends. I have always been the quiet and shy one. Please enter me in contest. I am a follower and email subscriber. Tore923@aol.com

Um, yes. But I think a few can't be shared on the internet. lol. I've always done stupid things for friends, that's part of what friends do for each other.

I remember seeing the first two books around, and thought they sounded really good. Glad to see you featuring the third. Thank you!

I can't think of anything that I have done stupid for my friends, but I can think of many things that I have done stupid WITH my friends, LOL. A majority often included alcohol, if you can believe that.

I am right there with Rhonda heading over into stalker ville LOL I have been following the tour this morning and am really getting hyped up about the series. I have book one and am really looking forward to continuing the fun. I have a tendency to be the rock or calming force in a lot of friendships, but also feel a bit like a cheerleader and if it makes someone smile when they are sad I am totally ready to make a fool of myself. You want an example, okay . . . one time went to a museum with a group of people who had some serious problems. There were so many snooty people and my friend looked so lost that I looked over at her and started a little head jerk and eye roll and before you knew it every time someone looked at us like we did not belong we were all twitching LOL Guess you had to be there, but every time I remember this memory I see the smile on my friend's face and it was so worth it.
