Being connected to Daemon Black sucks…

Daemon’s determined to prove what he feels for me is more than a product of our bizarre connection. I’ve sworn him off even though he’s running more hot than cold these days. But against all common sense, I’m falling for him. Hard.

Our relationship issues aren’t out biggest problem…

The Department of Defense is here. If they ever find out what Daemon can do and that we’re linked, I’m a goner. So is he. And when a new boy shows up a school with a secret of his own, things get complicated fast. I need to choose between my own instincts and Daemon’s.

But then everything changes…

I’ve seen someone who shouldn’t be alive. Daemon’s never going to stop searching until gets the truth. What happened to his brother? Who betrayed him? And what does the DOD want from them—from me?

No one is who they seem. And not everyone will survive the lies.

WOW! That was the best of the best books I've read in a LONG time! And I've read some pretty outstanding books lately, too!

This book was just.. WOW!

OK first of all, if you haven't read Shadows, well I guess that's the Pre-book- but seriously I think it's the First book because you SHOULD  know Dawson and Bethany - they're so much part of the story and Daemon's feelings towards his brother - so if you haven't read Shadows or Obsidian - then don't read this review...

OK SO - what happened in Obsidian - we left it off where Daemon was ready to except Kat's challenge about their true feelings. lol

YEAH! See that was a great start. I loved Daemon in Romantic mode. Ok so he wasn't really a hearts and flowers type guy, but he did his best to let Kat know how he felt. And she was being SO STUBBORN! I wanted to slap her a few times!

They know something happened to her when he healed her. They formed a bond, and Kat was so afraid that his feelings were from the bond and not because he really liked her. So she fought him on their feelings. grrrrr

They kept the secret about him healing her from everyone else because they were afraid it would attract attention to the DOD and they'd end up deal like Dawson and Bethany.

Everything was going great with these two, until the new guy shows up.. Here come Blake.. Brad, Bob, Bobo - lol Daemon didn't really like Blake, so he refused to acknowledge him as an equal.

But Blake liked Kat, and Kat wanted something normal in her life. She pushed aside all her feelings for Daemon because of the bond, but she knew the attraction was there. But she still wanted Blake as a friend.

And that's what they became. Although Blake didn't hide his attraction for Kat, and Kat didn't really turn him away, but Daemon wasn't one to give up.

It was when Blake and Kat were at the diner having something to eat, when an Aram walked in the restaurant. Kat's Necklace started to get really hot, and when she stood up to .. what? Run? Fight?? lol
Blake shot out of his seat instead... and lo and behold, Black is NOT who we thought he was...

WOW! I wasn't expecting that though (ha! read it to find out)
And when Daemon walks up and sees Blake in all his glory, everything Daemon thought was in his life, turned out to be lies, lies and more lies.

And when Kat decides to ignore Daemon's instincts not to trust Blake.... Poor Daemon is torn between watching over her to protect her, or leaving them alone to protect himself...

And that's not all!!!! This book has SO MUCH going on in it.. and if you think everything is solved by the ending - think again, because in December, Opal will be out and everything will pick up again :)

SO love this series!!!

I said it before and I will say it again... Jennifer L. Armentrout is the author to watch.  Her young adult works rival those of her colleagues and I have never been displeased yet.  If you enjoy the YA genre than you must pick up Armentrout's series.

Daemon Black is definitely the pulse of Onyx while Katy is the heartbeat.  One without the other is no good.  Together, the world is explosive.  Aliens?  Yes, aliens.  Although, Onyxis no where near to being my first intro into the Alien world it still has it's unique charm all its own.  In fact, I would highly recommend this title for those who are looking for a mellow introduction into scifi.   Daemon appears as human as the rest of us but he does possess abilities that no mere human wields.  He, his family and those others of his kind are called Luxens and they all have special abilities that's surely to be exploited if known by the wrong people.  As we see in Onyx, the Luxen have not gone undetected and they have to watch themselves.  With a government agency breathing down their necks and watching their every move knowing who to trust and who to call out as a spy is difficult.

Katy tries hard to deny her growing feelings for Daemon.  His cockiness is borderline neck-strangling to charming.  So who can blame Katy for having a hard time sorting out true intentions but as the novel pushed on she was blinded to what was really going on and did not take initiative.  But, heck, that added to the storyline. Adding to the storyline is the fact the Daemon has altered Katy indefinitely.  She is now no mere human and what that means for her changes her life as she knew it but then again Daemon himself has been life altering as well.  Poor girl has her hands full.

As Daemon and Katy band together to solve the mystery of Dawson and Bethany and as Katy learns her new abilities they are quick to see their world for what it is.  Whether that strengthens or weakens them and their Luxen community I shall not tell but Onyx's certainly worth a read.
