Rock and a Hard Place by Angie StantonMy rating: 4 of 5 stars
Awe! Loved this story!
I'm a huge fan of Rock Stars -
Reading this at a Young Adult level was different, and fun! I loved it!
One day while watching the Interstate exit for her dad’s long awaited return, Libby’s life is rocked when Peter Jamieson steps off his tour bus and into her life. After a couple chance meetings with Peter, Libby breaks away from her rule abiding behavior and her life changes course.
Peter longs for normalcy away from the screaming fans who know nothing about the real him. He is amazed to discover Libby has never heard of him or his band. Soon their friendship turns to love. While Peter battles his family's growing interference so he can spend time with Libby, she struggles with her eccentric aunt who turns more bizarre each day.
Their lives are torn apart when Peter's family intrudes and Libby disappears. Peter’s desperate search for her comes up empty. Can they find their way back to each other while the world plots against them?
Jen's Review:
We start off with Libby sitting at her favorite tree. Waiting for her dad that has been gone for over a year. He said he'd be back and she'd be ready when he did.
But instead of her dad, she saw a big bus pull into the park. At first she thought it would be someone famous or really rich. But when a few guys came out of the bus and started throwing the Frisbee around, and mom and dad came out with the food, she noticed it was just a typical family.
Keeping herself hidden by the tree, she watched the family be normal, and she longed for the normalcy that they shared.
When one of the guys, Peter let the Frisbee pass him and land next to her. He picked it up and tossed it back, but instead of going back to his game, he sat down next to her.
They struck up a conversation, where Libby had to admit she hadn't heard of the boy's band "Jamison" - she didn't have a radio, TV or Computer, or even a phone. She hated to admit it, but he didn't believe her.
When he finally did, they carried on their conversation until his brother told him it was time to eat. Libby realizing the time, ran back to her Aunt's farmhouse nearby - taking the long way around so Peter couldn't see where she lived.
She loved the fact that she met someone who wanted to talk to her. Someone who thought she mattered in her miserable life. But he was gone now, and what would the chances of meeting a rock star again? Slim.. right?
Hanging out in her favorite spot at the park, when she felt the shadow loom over her. She looked up and saw Peter there.
Luckily his mom loved the secluded Park that was close to the interstate.
The spent a couple of hours exploring the woods, and spending some time together. not realizing that Adam, Peter's brother was following them around.
Peter gave Libby a cell phone so he could keep in touch with her. She didn't want to take it, but she didn't want to lose communication with him either.
They spoke for weeks on the phone while he was on tour. He was able to meet up with her a couple of times. Falling in love with her. She was his sanity. His rock - and He was her reason to keep going.
This was really a cute story. I enjoyed it alot! Reading about famous rock stars in other books, I never really thought of how different a Teenage Rock Star traveling with his family would be :)
