Existence by Abbi GlinesMy rating: 4 of 5 stars
Great story! not a lot of people can pull off a good PNR in YA - but Abbi Glines hasn't let me down yet with any of her books, yet :)
This book reminds me a lot of Eve Langlais's book "Date with Death" Only it was made for YA instead of adult.
What happens when you're stalked by Death? You fall in love with him, of course.
Pagan Moore doesn't cheat Death, but instead, falls in love with him.
Seventeen year old Pagan Moore has seen souls her entire life. Once she realized the strangers she often saw walking through walls were not visible to anyone else, she started ignoring them. If she didn't let them know she could see them, then they left her alone. Until she stepped out of her car the first day of school and saw an incredibly sexy guy lounging on a picnic table, watching her with an amused smirk on his face. Problem is, she knows he's dead.
Not only does he not go away when she ignores him, but he does something none of the others have ever done. He speaks. Pagan is fascinated by the soul. What she doesn't realize is that her appointed time to die is drawing near and the wickedly beautiful soul she is falling in love with is not a soul at all.
He is Death and he's about to break all the rules.
Jen's Review:
The first day of senior year as she walked into the school with her best friend Miranda, she saw a soul sitting on the table outside. She did her best to ignore this good looking thing starring at her.
Dank is a different type of soul, he can talk to Pagan. Not only can he talk to her, but he could touch her.
Pagan couldn't figure out why, but she knew she wasn't afraid of him.
Leif wasn't a soul. He was a real life hottie guy who needed a tutor for his speech class. Yes even on the first day of school. Leif is a great guy. Sure he's the star quarterback, and very popular guy. But he's very down to earth and easy going. And he's been watching Pagan since Freshman year.
Pagan’s feelings for Leif weren't as strong as his were for her. She liked him. He was comfortable to be around, and she felt safe with him. But she didn't love him, her heart only belonged to the one who made her feel safe from the other souls. The one who sang sweet songs to her every night when she was too afraid to sleep. The one that wasn't really there for the world to see.
That is until Dank became HUMAN! That's right. The famous Dank Walker, almost rock star was not going to high school. But he wasn't there to be with Pagan, he started hanging out with Katrina, the school's skank.
Pagan’s life quickly turned around with jealousy.
Sometimes it felt like I was reading two different stories. Pagan’s life turned around so much that she became two different people at times.
It was a real heartbreaker.
But I really loved this story –

"Mr. Brown glanced up once more with a slightly annoyed expression on his face, 'Gentlemen, if one does not study the words of famous romantic poets how will one ever learn to woo the woman they will one day love? I can assure you that P Diddy has no words on instruction in his lyrical creations.'"
