Because of Low by Abbi GlinesMy rating: 5 of 5 stars
I admit it - I was rooting for Marcus a few times in the last book :)
I'm glad he got his HEA - he deserved it after everything Sadie put him through in the last book.
I've been singing Wanted Dead or Alive for 3 days now! I love that song, but I hope the next book I read has a different song to put in my head :)
In my debut novel, Breathe, Sadie may have fallen in love with the teen rock star, Jax Stone, but readers fell head over heels for Marcus Hardy. This is his story…
Marcus Hardy had hoped to enjoy a year away at college while he put the summer he’d rather forget behind him. But instead, he’s jerked right back to the coastal town of Sea Breeze, Alabama due to a family crisis. His dear ol' dad found himself a girlfriend only a few years older than Marcus. So now his sister needs help dealing with their mother who is mentally falling apart. The only bright spot to returning is the fascinating red head who sleeps over several times a week. The problem is she's sleeping in bed with his new roommate, Cage Watson.
Willow “Low” Foster needs a place to live. Running to Cage’s apartment every time her sister kicks her out isn’t exactly a long term solution. Juggling her courses at the local community college and a part time job doesn’t produce excess income. But Cage has a new roommate and suddenly sleeping over at her best friend’s apartment isn’t such a bad thing. Not when she gets to see those sexy green eyes of Marcus Hardy’s twinkle when he smiles at her like he wants her there.
Even though Cage seems a little territorial where Low is concerned, Marcus finds time to spend with Low without upsetting his roommate. Cage may use his small college baseball star persona to sleep with every hot female in his path but he’s still under the disillusion that when he’s through sowing his wild oats, he’s going to marry Low. Marcus intends to change that assumption for both Cage and Low. Until his carefully laid plans come crashing down with a revelation he never expected. He’ll have to choose between Low or his family. Because once the truth comes out.... there’s no other choice.
Jen's Review:
Poor Marcus - His life just got turned upside down and all around. He had to up and leave collage and move back to Alabama to help out his mom and his sister. His dad, the jerk decided to cheat on his mom with a girl only a couple years older than Marcus. His mom was devastated and his sister was going crazy with worry.
Looking for a place to stay, Peterson? Hooked him up with one of his friends Cage. Cage was a player. Hardcore! hardly ever home and always with another girl. Or two . He had high standards though, so when Marcus was hanging out one night at the apartment alone, he opened the door to see the most down to earth gorgeous girl he'd ever seen. But this wasn't one of Cage's typical girls. She was gorgeous yes, but she didn't have any of the qualities he usually went for.
He was sad when the girl asked to use his cell phone to call Cage. Knowing that Cage with with a couple of friends already, he didn't think it would be much help. But the girls red rimmed eyes and suitcase in hand told him to give her the phone.
Within mins Cage had called her back. When he asked to talk to Marcus, demanding that he watch over Low and in no way to let her leave until he gets there, he hung up.
Willow's life is a mess, Her mom left her, her dad left her, and only her sister was left. But she would only let Low spend the night on the nights that she watched her sister's baby Larissa. Larissa is the cutest 1 year old baby girl :) I loved her in this book. But Tawny, Low's sister, didn't deserve such a sweetheart of a daughter, or a sister like Low.
Without any place to go, Cage welcomed Low into his bed with opened arms... Good thing that Low had higher standards :) She knew Cage, and all his "over night" buddies, she knew his drinking and smoking and everything else he did, and he wasn't going to change. Even though he told everyone he was going to marry her, she loved him like a brother. He was safe, and he took care of her. But that was it.
Marcus couldn't even begin to understand their relationship, but he knew he didn't care what Cage said. Low deserved better.
We learn more about Marcus, and his growing up - He wasn't like most rich kids. In fact he didn't even want his father's money. And now that his father was screwing around, he didn't want anything to do with his father, either.
I loved this story. the whole situation sucked, and I about freaked out when everything started falling apart - Marcus deserved this relationship!
Great story - can't wait to see who's next... I am hoping Cage gets to settle down :) is there a girl out there that can tame his heart??
OMG - I was right! Just peeked at Abbi Glines's good reads page, August 7 - While it Last's comes out, and it IS Cages's story!! Now I can't wait -

Hello, thanks for reviewing it. I loved that book. Liked it much more than Breathe (which I already enjoyed very much). I wonder how Cage is going to be tamed as well. Hard work! ;-)
