If you love those big strong Alpha males who doesn't take no for an answer, and a strong hearted female who doesn't give a damn what he thinks,
Then this book is definetly A MUST!
Cara Paulsen does not give up easily. A scientist and a single mother, she's used to fighting for what she wants, keeping a cool head, and doing whatever it takes to protect her daughter Janie. But "whatever it takes" has never before included a shotgun wedding to a dangerous-looking stranger with an attitude problem. . .
Sure, the mysterious Talen says that he's there to protect Cara and Janie. He also says that he's a three-hundred-year-old vampire. Of course, the way he touches her, Cara might actually believe he's had that long to practice. . .
Loved this book! It was a great start to what looks like a fun series! I'm already itching to start on the 2nd book :)
The book starts off quickly with Cara sound asleep - her daughter - 4 year old Janie (but is VERY mature for a 4 year old! - she's more mature than my 7 year old )
Janie has an ability - she dreams of the future. And she has been dreaming a lot lately - As Cara wakes up, Janie keeps telling her to hurry and get up "they're coming now - the bad men."
Cara has an ability as well. She can't see the future. Her sister Emma can though. But Cara is empathy (is that the right word?) She's able to feel emotions, detect a lie - so she knows when her daughter's freaked out. She tries to comfort her daughter.
When she heard the loud crash from the other room, she leapt from the bed, yanked Janie into her arms and sprinted for the bathroom. Just as she was unlocking the bathroom window, just a as a broad hand stopped her.
Even though this man was more than 6 and a half feet of muscle-packed male, she knew she'd have to fight. Save her daughter.
"We need to go" He says - But she wasn't going to buy it.
"It will be okay. We have to go." He was being gentle as he wrapped his arm around her bicep. But he dropped her arm just as fast as he grabbed it. He looked at his hand and wiped it on his pant leg and grabbed her again.. WTH ??
Grabbing a laundry basket in one hand, and dragging Cara with the other, he called over his shoulder "Janie follow us"
And she did. She dreamed about him. He is the good guy. The bad men were still coming.
Cara was making plans to get away, but he wasn't going to let anything happen to her - the mark that came on his hand the moment he touched her proved that without a doubt, she was his mate. And he would always protect what was his. And right now, Cara and Janie was as good as his, and they had to get out of there before the Kurjans showed up.
Once they got to safety at the US Marshal's office, things were going to get tricky.
When Talen was alone with Cara, he tried to explain to her what was going on.
He explains that the Kurjans are out kidnapping women with enhanced abilities. And they wanted Cara.
Then he explained the rest... He is the protector of the Sanguisuga race... Vampires - The Kurjans are a different kind of vampire. The Sanguisuga doesn't have to drink blood. Only during battle... or, um, sex -
But the Kurjans, they're monsters. They were at peace with them for 3 centuries, until they learned about Janie and Cara. And now they are at war again.
Things get dicey when Talen tells Cara she is his mate, and they will be married and mated before the next dawn......
After their quick wedding (he's an alpha male, of course they got married within an hour of their rescue) She left with the Marshal to sign some papers. Janie had stayed with Talen.
Once in the elevator, they were attacked. The Marshal was knocked out and Cara was kidnapped.
And Talen was FURIOUS!
This book has a LOT of information that I'm sure will come in handy for the upcoming books - We met all 4 of Talen's brother's - his oldest, the KING of the Realm, Dage - who has met his mate (Emma) but she took off, and he hasn't seen her since.
Then there was Conn, and Jase, But Kane was away for the time being.
Dage had recognized Cara as his mates sister. But when Cara had called Emma to let her know that she was ok, Emma seemed to know more about what's going on then Cara did. Emma set up to make herself disappear and promised to keep in touch with Cara though a bogus email. Emma was good at making herself lost - both the Kurjans and the Vampires couldn't find her.
Janie is awesome - she's a 4 year old who can wrap the biggest, toughest soldier around her little finger.
This was a fun story to read, and I'm really looking forward to the next one - Dage and Emma :)
