Jen's Reading Again
Jen's Review:
Rating 5 of 5 stars

An intriguing world where only the strongest survives. A forbidden romance – Bandits is  a Fast-paced adventure that is filled with Great Details and non-stop action.

I am in love with this book! I mainly got this book for my son to read and was going to combine his review with mine (his will come along later)
Once I started this book, I couldn’t put it down.

The story starts off in a strange way – Daniel and his little brother and slacker cousin  are in their rooms trying to sleep – while their father is hosting a Gambling night at their house. Things get loud – Then quiet real fast .. too quiet. Daniel sneaks down to find his father dead.

We learn that this isn’t a typical story – it takes place on a planet called Merwin – And Daniel was raised by his father to be a Zukar (a group of thieves/assassins) It’s all he and his little brother Nickel  know in their lives. Faulk , their cousin from the planet Earth snuck away from home and wanted to hide out with Daniel – try a little adventure of his own. HA HA – He didn’t know what the Planet Merwin was capable of J
The whole planet is full of strange and dangerous creatures – It’s not safe for anyone who isn’t trained to be there.

Once the 3 of them get out of the house – they head over to Daniel’s best friend Gabe’s house. They need to borrow the water car to get to their trove to find out what was so important that the Zukar would kill their father – Daniel wanted to give it to the Zukar’s so they could go on with their lives.

Gabe wasn’t home – Jade – his little sister was. Daniel and Gabe had been best friends since they were little kids – Their father’s were best friends – worked together on their jobs and trusted each other with their lives. Jade was like a little sister to Daniel. He loved her and protected her from everything – including boys. When Faulk met Jade … Lets say Daniel started in on his over protective big brother sense and tried to back him up a little. Jade was just a day shy of 16 , and Faulk and Daniel were closer to 18.

ANYWAYS – so Gabe wasn’t home – Jade got the key to the water carrier (boat) and would only let them use it if she came along.

Here is where the story gets REALLY GOOD – The details of the creatures inside the water -
a Merphin (flesh eating sea person that climbs inside the boats to eat you!)
The Troves – First you go to Jade’s Trove (the secret island where they hide their cut of the treasures from their jobs) In order to get to the Treasure room – you have to go through a lot of different obstacles – and if you make the wrong move …. You set off a booby trap and could get killed. The description of this island is out of this world! L.M Preston was so descriptive with this I swear it was like I was right there seeing it with them!

When they get to the Sea of Fire – on the way to Daniel’s Family Trove – even the description of the fire fish and gel fish are so livid –

Because Faulk is interested in Jade – Daniel starts to see her in a different way. She is no longer the skinny little girl with frizzy hair – she turned into a beautiful young woman – and he can’t seem to understand how he’s suppose to ignore it. His best friend’s little sister – He would KILL HIM!
BUT Jade has a secret too – on her 16th birthday – She approaches Daniel – she has never kissed a boy before and she guilt’s him into giving her a first kiss – Daniel reluctantly does his duty and makes her swear her secrecy – But he has trouble fighting it himself

The adventure continues – there are bad guys out to kill these children for the information they have found in their troves leading to the treasure that Daniel’s father stole and hid from the rest of the Zukars.
I just have to say it again – the details are so great – it really makes it hard to put this book down. This isn’t a typical book – these guys actually fall down while running from a creature – and get hurt (shock!) These guys stick together and work out problems – and see things through.

I really can’t say enough about this book. It’s SO different than what I thought it was going to be. I’m really glad I got a chance to read it J
