Review: Darkness Dawns (Immortal Guardians #1) by Dianne Duvall

February 1 2011   Darkness Dawns (Immortal Guardians #1) by Dianne Duvall
In this dazzling, sensual novel, Dianne Duvall beckons readers into a world of vampires, immortals, and humans with extraordinary gifts. . .where passion can last forever, if you're willing to pay the price. . .
Once, Sarah Bingham's biggest challenge was making her students pay attention in class. Now, after rescuing a wounded stranger, she's landed in the middle of a battle between corrupt vampires and powerful immortals who also need blood to survive. Roland Warbrook is the most compelling man Sarah has ever laid hands on. But his desire for her is mingled with a hunger he can barely control. . .
In his nine centuries of immortal existence, no woman has tempted Roland as much as Sarah. But asking her to love him is impossible--when it means forfeiting the world she's always known, and the life he would do anything to protect. . .

On to my review:
Equal parts action and intrigue with a generous serving of romance- Dianne Duvall has outdone herself and I gladly welcome her to the PNR scene.

I read Melissa's (Books and Things) post on Roland, the main character and I was immediately drooling (I asked for a bib =P).  I knew I would soon be adding this book boy crush to my list of lovelies.  Melissa, you have great tastes.

Romance and action all wrapped into one book.  Everything was fantastic.  My most favorite aspect of this story was the take on Vampires and Immortals.  They are not the same but are the product of the same occurrences.  There is a mix of natural born abilities and medical origins to Dianne's unique version of Vampirism and Immortality.  Dianne's take on vampires and especially immortals are very interesting and fun to read.  The only comparison to past works I can draw is The Darkyn series by Lynn Viehl.  So if you happen to have read and enjoyed those you will no doubt love this one.

Another love of this novel, the romance was sweet to the core and ripe for the picking.  Roland is shocking all of his friends/acquaintances because seeing him socialize with this small but feisty woman is a rarity.  That shocking factor coupled with Roland and Sarah courtship (for lack of a better word) make the romance all the more sweet.  Sarah and her tiny fists break down the walls to Roland's heart and boy is a fun to read!!!!

All in all, Lots of steamy scenes and romance to tickle the toes of any PNR fan.  Those who want to read something with all the aspects of PNR and then some..... you need to pick up Darkness Dawns.  I thoroughly enjoyed this title to no end.  I give this novel a 5/5 stars and I rarely rate books on this blog.

What will sequels bring forth in the series?  I have no clue but I'm very eager to discover what lays ahead for myself.
