Review: Some Girls Are by Courtney Summers

Some Girls Are by Courtney Summers
I just made 25 years a couple of months back so I recall high school very well. Plus, I have a
sister and several cousins who are still in HS..... so now I ask-
Is High School really like this?

Granted living on an island can be considered isolated compared to the large populations found around the States. But seriously, is HS this much of a war zone? Teachers and Staff
that oblivious?
Some Girls Are is a fast read.
Regina is an interesting character. She is one I have not read often. I am used to falling in love with the heroine and rooting not stop for her but with Regina I welcome the change. I find Regina's character refreshing in the sense to change things up. I was cheering for her but at the same time pissed and annoyed with her.
Regina is a b!7*# in reform.
She gets a taste of her own "freeze-out-bully" medicine. When Regina is hurt and confides in Kara who then takes advantage of it and throws regina to the sharks. Come Monday after a seemingly normal party Regina is iced out cold.
Ana, Kara, Jeanette and Marta give Mondays a whole new reason to hate other then the norm of not wanting to wake for school after a great weekend.
Ana, Kara, Jeanette and Marta give Mondays a whole new reason to hate other then the norm of not wanting to wake for school after a great weekend.
Page after page is a closer and closer look into who Regina is, the life she had led, the pain that she and the fearsome Five have caused, and the girl she is becoming.
There were parts that I wanted to scream my head off because Regina took the abuse and she never said a single thing to her mom or anyone that could help her.
Other parts I wanted to see her in pain for all she's caused.
Then I wanted to she her heal and connect with Michael.
All in all, Some Girls Are is a fantastic read. One day is all it took to read.
The transformation that Regina goes through and the challenges she faces are intriguing and
as a reader I am glad to have experienced it.
Some Girls Are is a novel I decided to read because of all the blog reviews and my friend Kainani
recommended it on shelfari.

My Elevator Story
In the start of this year, I entered a elevator. I was on my way to meet a client for a meeting.
Normally, I carry a book in my bag but I took it out and left it in the car so I could fit in my laptop. Plus, I hate when my book cover or pages bend when I stuff in my comp.
So there I was entering the elevator and I see a sign similar to this:

Photo Source. Google search took me to flickr.
But a bit more... well, it was paper card board with marker writings.
So yes... not very reassuring.
However, the safety of the elevator was not what concerned me.
My first thought (and my only for the rest of the day) was
"Shoot, I left my book in the car. What the heck am I going to do if I get stuck and have to wait.
Urghhhhhh!!!! Why did I leave it."
I admit, it is not a normal reaction but seriously there is no better way to
pass time then to read a great book.
Has anyone else had a not-so-normal reaction like mine?
Review: Twilight: The Graphic Novel, Volume 1
Twilight: The Graphic Novel is one of a small handful of GN I've read.
A couple I've read and enjoyed were Mercy Thompson: Homecoming and Black is for Beginnings.
My GN experience is minimal but let me say that Twilight: The Graphic Novel rocks.
In fact, I am going to venture off to say that I would love to see the Twilight Saga made into Anime.

Volume One en closely to where Midnight Sun had but instead right after the Meadow scene and
not before.
The images are beautiful and stunning. Young Kim did a fantastic job.
When I first heard that there was going to be a graphic novel- I was adfraid
the characters would all have an asian flare but that was definitely not the case.
I can see that Young Kim invested time and thought into each character.
A mix between Young Kim's visually stunning representation and the pieces of literature and scenes chosen
for The Graphic Novel paints a complete picture of Twilight. Well, half of Twilight.
I highly recommend reading the actual series in company with The Graphic Novel.
Entertaining all the books and all the extras will prove to be a great Beach Book!=)
hehehehe, I read it at the beach!

Here is the teaser:
Flanking V’lane’s caste—which I assume is the highest ranking by how the other castes seem to protect it—are the stuff of fairytales. There are rainbow-colored, delicate Fae that dart like hummingbirds on gossamer wings; silvery nymphs that dance on dainty feet; and others that I can’t even see, except for blinding trailers of light they leave behind as they move. They’re so brilliant and fiery, they could only be earthbound stars.
I scoff at the delicacy of his army. They’re ethereal, born to wisp about, seduce, and be served.
Mine is earthy, solid. Born to gorge, kill, and rule.
We stalk toward each other, down a snow-filled street.
Where Seelie feet touch the earth, the snow melts with a hiss. Steam rises and flowers push up through cracks, blooming brilliantly, anointing the air with the scents of jasmine and sandalwood. The Seelie end of the street is bathed in golden light.
Where my army’s hooves and scaled bellies pass over the stones—a crust of black ice forms. The night embraces us; stealthy shadows, we ooze forward from the blackness.
Any Fever fans!? What do you think?
BTW, if you are going to FeverCon- I will forever envy you!

Review: Perfect Chemistry by Simone Elkeles
Ummmm mmmmm.... The Reformed Bad Boy.
(Well, maybe not so much Bad Boy but bad enough)
Let me say, there is nothing better then a romance of 2 people who seem so far separated to only learn that they are everything alike.
Alex, a hardened and feared gang member--and not even of full legal age-- from the wrong side.
Brittney, a seemingly has-it-all girl from the right part of town carrying along in her merry dandy life.
Who would have thought that the hardened gang banger is not as tough
and the seemingly has-it-all has not so much.
Perfect Chemistry explored the tale of two different worlds intertwining
and mingling in one. Alex, a representation of one and Brittney of the other.
The world is a high school setting which often times can very well be a battle field.
Rumors, gossip, nasty remarks and ignorance thrives in high school halls
but as we see in Perfect Chemistry there may just be more then meets the eye.
Readers are taken along a beautiful love story with Alex and Brittney steering the way.
They are not your run of the mill teenagers.
Alex is in deep trouble and those who call the shots are not so forgiving.
Brittney is heavily burdened with the upkeep of a facade no teen girl should bare- or
anyone for that matter.
Together they make discoveries of the worlds they come from, they break one another's facades
and more importantly they discover themselves.
Readers will not be disappointed. In fact, we are treated to an epilogue some 23 years later. It was a teeny weeny glimpse but I am willing the grasp at that wee bit more- anything to extend a
fascinating read.
Personally, I enjoy YA Romance because I believe in love even young love-maybe especially young love.
Granted it may not lead to marriage but it is still worthy of being named love.
Is it not?

My Donation: NAtional Library Week/Month
Kate @ The Neverending Shelf had issued National Library Week challenge and I thought there would be no better way then to celebrate our libraries then to participate.
I had written two postings:
The challenge was that for every comment I would donate a 1/4th of a book to my library.
I decided to keep Kate's guidelines. I was planning to donate money
to compensate if I did not have enough books.
Between the 2 postings I had only 4 comments.
A big thanks to Melissa, Paper Cut Reviewer, melissa @ 1lbr (plus she won a prize-CONGRATS),
and Audrey for contributing comments.
Here is the books I cleaned off of my shelf (making room for more):
There is more then 1 book.... but this challenge really helped me to clean out all
the books I dont need hanging around anymore-esp since some of these were duplicates or books I have not read in a long time.

Waiting on Wednesday
Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Breaking the Spine
The purpose is to highlight the books we are most eagerly awaiting.
and mind you I am not have little to no patience so waiting is no small feat.
First up:
October 2010 by Delacorte Pres
A while back i posted a highlight on this book and I am still eager if not
more since then. In fact I reread the excerpt yesterday.
August 3rd 2010 by Dutton Adult

June 22nd 2010 by Bloomsbury US

September 7th 2010 by Signet
Of course, there are more books where these came from!!=)
For a sneak peek head over to Michele's site
"Spartacus: Blood and Sand"
I swear to be burned
chained, beaten
or die by the sword
in pursuit of honor.
Last night I watched the first 2 episodes of
"Spartacus: Blood and Sand"
I am intrigued with this time era. The arena and gladiators.
I read some reviews prior saying Spartacus is a reminder of 300 and I agree.
There is a fantasy quality to how the show is made. The blood and visual are a bit much for me-
Yes, I am grossed out so I close my eyes several times.
*shudders*
The story line is wonderful and inspirational and exciting. I want nothing more then to
have Spartacus demolish Glaber.
The cast, imo, is great. Everyone looks the part accept for Batiatus (John Hannah)- I
feel sorry for Lucretia (Lucy Lawless) bc I wouldnt want to kiss that after looking around;)
On the same subject, I hate her bright hair- too fake.
Okay, so I loved the first two episodes but I really do not
like nudity of any kind. Call me old fashion? call me whatevers but
I like my eyes for my husband only.
*shudders*
But looking at gorgeous faces and finely tones bods is a whole other arena!=)
Hmmm, I wonder what it is like to have a infinite legacy. A name and a story
to hold up against the passing of time.
Bloggers, what kind of legacy would you
like to leave behind?
Are there any up to date viewers of this show?
How are you liking it thus far?
