So w/o further ramblings from me, here is Jennifer:
Greetings and salutations! First of all, I want to say thanks to Chasity for having me on the blog today. Thanks, Chasity!
Some of you might know me as the author of the Elemental Assassin urban fantasy series. The books focus on Gin Blanco, an assassin codenamed the Spider who can control the elements of Ice and Stone. When she’s not busy killing people and righting wrongs, Gin runs a barbecue restaurant called the Pork Pit in the fictional southern metropolis of Ashland. The city is also home to giants, dwarves, vampires, and elementals - Air, Fire, Ice, and Stone.
(Linked to LLL Reviews)
The first two books in the series are Spider’s Bite and Web of Lies. Venom, the third book, will hit shelves on Sept. 28. Tangled Threads, the fourth book, will be published in May 2011, while the fifth book (untitled) will be released in October 2011.

I’ve also sold a young adult urban fantasy series called Mythos Academy. The first book is called Touch of Frost and will be out in August 2011. The books focus on Gwen Frost, a Gypsy girl who has the gift of psychometry, or the ability to know an object’s history just by touching it. After a serious freak-out with her magic, Gwen finds herself shipped off to Mythos Academy, a school for the descendents of ancient warriors like Spartans, Valkyries, and more.
So Chasity asked me to talk a little about some of the words that Gin uses in the Elemental Assassin books. Gin definitely has her own way of speaking, using words and phrases like “po-po” and “sloppy, sloppy, sloppy.” There are others that she says, but these seem to be the two most popular - or most annoying, depending on your point of view. LOL.
So why do I use these words? Well, I think that it’s one way to distinguish Gin as a character. Think how boring it would be if all the characters in all the books talked exactly the same. Not every character has had the same experiences or lives in the same place, so I think their speech patterns should be different. Giving Gin her own unique vocabulary or having her describe things a certain way makes her seem a little more real and lifelike to me, and I hope it does to readers too.
Besides, we don’t all talk the same way in real life so why should books be any different? Personally, I love traveling to other places and hearing other people’s accents, especially since I have such a hillbilly accent of my own. LOL.
Plus, there’s a personal connection too. A lot of these words are little in-jokes between me and my friends and family - things that we’ve somehow thought up over the years that have become part of our everyday conversations. They’re just natural words to me, ones that have crept into my writing in various ways.
For example, every time we’re out driving around and we pass a police car, my significant other will say “Be cool! It’s the po-po!” So instead of saying “police” all the time in the books, Gin will often shorten it to “po-po” instead in honor of my significant other.
As for “sloppy, sloppy, sloppy,” that’s another little in-joke. Sometimes, when my friends and I get together, we’ll sit around and play cards. Whenever someone drops a card or rolls a pair of dice off the table, we’ll all chime in and say “sloppy play.” I just thought that a variation of that - “sloppy, sloppy, sloppy” - would be something interesting for Gin to say whenever one of her enemies makes a mistake and would be in keeping with her assassin character.
My friends, family, and I have all kinds of slang words that we use. Sandwich is “sammich” to us (although I don’t use that in the books). Anytime someone yawns, we all say “Wakey, wakey, kitty-cat,” thanks to my significant other, who has three cats. And whenever my mom or I bring the other one bread, milk, or whatever from the store, we always say that our carrying charge is $40 (no matter what the actual cost of the bread is). I don’t really know why we decided on $40, but it’s a number that’s stuck.
Yeah, my friends, family, and I are all a little crazy. But that’s what makes life fun, right? ;-)What about you guys? Do you have your own slang words? What are they and what do they mean?

Do I have any slang words? Hmm. I don't really think so. I've tried making up words all the time for my writing and fail completely at it.
But there are slang words I use but non that I've created. Like, calling someone a duck. Hmm, not that interesting. O.o
Anyway, author seems really awesome and I'm all up for entering so my email is G_MIKE_07105@msn.com
I will comment on the venom right now but fear that I am too lazy to post about the contest. Perhaps I'll do it later without wanting the extra entry.
I've also emailed you with the Bitten review, the new and improved one. I don't know if it went through or not but hopefully I didn't send it to someone else.
Keep posting and doing an awesome job!
@ Michael- I will search for it!! Thanks a bunch. My email inboxes are much to crowded these days.
hahaha- I think I fall under the same category as you- not very creative!=)
My family and I have inside jokes and sometimes all it takes is a word to trigger the meaning. We have a ton of inside jokes.
As far as slang that I've created- none really. In reviews and posting I can get over excited sometimes and make up words or add a suffix to a word that then makes the word, not a word. LOL! But it's all in good fun.
We have a ton of our own slang and sotires that crack us up. The funniest thing my family tends to do is this...
Someone will say a word or phrase that will make someone else think of a song, suddenly that person will start singing it and then the whole family is belting it out...lol.
When it's people who aren't used to being around us that says something that sparks a song, they tend to look at us like we're nuts...hehe.
Thanks for the post and giveaway!

LOL! Fun post!
I agree! I'm glad people talk differently from all parts of the world. I love traveling so I can hear accents.
As for slang words... Gawd, I can't really think of any at the moment, but recently I asked my little cousins about the type of slang words they use in schools now a days, and they rolled their eyes at me! I felt so old. LOL
We do have a little inside joke in our family started by my mother. Instead of "Syke" we say "Zooke" because she honestly thought that was the way to say it. :D
Thanks for the giveaway! I'm excited to get my hands on these books.
Hi, everyone! I just wanted to chime in and say thanks to Chasity for having me back on the blog.
I think we all have our little slang words and phrases that we use with our family and friends over the years -- that make no sense to anyone else but us. But they usually bring back memories, so I figure that it's all good. ;-)
I love the interview!
I don't have any slang I'm not that cool;-)
Thank you for this giveaway.

We don't have any slang in our family. My daughter added a name to her cat after she wouldn't stay out of her oatmeal bowl. She became Jocelyn Oatmeal.

@ Reading Angel- That's wicked awesome. They must give Wayne Brady a run for his money! You family gatherings must be a huge riot!!
@ Missie- I agree. Living in Hawaii I dont have to do must traveling to meet ppl of the world since everyone travels here.
I hear accents and read names of ppl from all over and it's fun!=)
The other day someone told me that they like my accent. I was like "what? I dont have an accent." But apparently, I do. I thought I talked normal and everyone else had the accents. i am thinking everyone must've felt like that at one time or another.
Hey Jennifer- thanks for stopping in!=)
@ Mysteriousrose- LOL!! I feel yah!
@ Andrea- a cat lovin' oatmeal. Yum!
Andrea -- I think that's really cute. My significant other's cat can't stay out of drinks. For some reason, the water in a cup is much more interesting than the water in her bowl. LOL.
LOL Jennifer!
Hmmm, at least your SO's cat is not in the toilet bowl- or is he/she?
Nope, but she has been known to curl up in the sink and take a nap. She's a strange cat ...
She sounds adorable!=D
@LLL Reviews
You are so lucky to be in Hawaii! You are right, everyone comes to you! How cool is that?!
I've been to Maui, and I LOVED the say the locals spoke. I spent the whole time watching the local news. LOL

Maui is gorgeous!=)
Oddly the News doesn't use much local lingo or pidgin but they definitely have their own style that sets them apart of other broadcasts. Oh wait, we do have a station where you can air your own taping so there is a chance you could have seen that.
I suppose we have a few slang words in our family. We say "olive juice" instead of I love you at times. With the kids. Would be weird with my husband LOL.

Olive juice is super cute and very covert... something like would be great to do with teenaged sons and maybe daughters too.
Btw, I got your Blogmania Pkg out!
There used to be an email floating around about upgrading your spouse to version 2.0. Anyway, thanks to that email, my DH always refers to me as "Wife Unit" (yes, he's a geek).
I can't think of anything else, except that anytime our two nieces are in the car with us, and someone starts hitting someone else over the head with an empty plastic water bottle (long story there), we all immediately say "We're all gonna die!!!"
You know, slang just isn't as funny out of context.

I do have my own slang words I use. I generally use them when I'm upset or someone is trying to get a rise out of me. I won't repeat them here because ummm well they aren't the nicest things. My friends expect nothing less from me :-)

LLL Reviews -- She's also a very sweet cat, so it all balances out.
Robin -- That's really cute and fun.
Jen -- Wife Unit? Heh. I'll have to tell my married girlfriends that one. ;-)
Aik -- I had one of those cars back in college. Only I used a different, four-letter word to describe it. LOL.
My sisters and I use the word 'nerd' a lot when someone gets all happy/giddy/excited about something.
Littopandaxpress(at)yahoo(dot)com
@ JenM- I love that one. I will have to see if my hubby will say anything next time I refer to him as "Husband Unit 4.0" in front of friends and family.
HAHAHAHA- I can see his look now. I cant wait to try it.
@ Stephanie- We have a ton of local slang to refer to that 'other side' of us you dont want to meet. LOL! But when someone is trying to get a rise out of you then I would def let loose as well. *6%3$#*#$ And Yes, I do have an 'other side.'
@ Beverly- My husband and his family does that all the time. I am really bad at recalling lines from movies but books no prob there.
@ AIK- A lemon? Sounds like a story behind that one. This reminds me though that I call my Armada "The Silver Beast"
@ Jennifer- Is that what Lemon means!?
@ Van_pham- I use 'giddy' a lot!
I'm usually a fan of the "Oh Snap!" but most times instead of saying it I'll snap my fingers three times (please don\t judge me for this LOL).

I wish I have read some of her books. I have a few on my shelf.
Well, I'm from London so I'm surrounded by slang day in, day out. I try not to use it myself so much! I nearly always say 'man' at the end of my sentences-when I'm at home anyway.
Also, when people are relaxing or chilling out, they say they are 'cotching' which I think is kinda funny.
Cool= 'Heavy!'
Fight= 'Beef!'
k_anon[at]hotmail[dot]co[dot]uk
@ jmspettoli - No judging here- we all have out thang!=)
@ Cleverly Inked- These series are perfect UF if you are ever in need of a UF fix!=)
@ Kulsuma-
In Hawaii, we use 'Beef' as slang for 'fight' as well. For instance, you can here it used like this: "What! You like beef?" Hawaii is filled with slang and pidgin.
The only Slang words that I can think about right now is we call Pepsi "pop" but coke is coke
Also my husband and I call our pets our kids. We have 5 chihuahuas and a cat and they are are babies. I tell everyone that I stopped having two legged babies and started having four legged ones.

Great interview Chas!! I LOVE the new look, btw. !:) It rocks! I'm in the middle of mine now.. bleh:P hehe
Anyways, slang words... I have many, but I don't call it slang. haha
Like "eh". I am Canadian so I do say "eh" a lot.
I also say Roaring. Like I was roaring. (meaning laughing)
I do say Bloody Hell sometimes, but that's more of a sware.. It's funny because I'm soo don't have an english accent. hehe
If It's open fr me Chas, count me in. I don't have a copy of this yet!
natashajennex(at)gmail(dot)com
What an interesting question. Well my sister and I have inside jokes and use quotes from shows. Arrested Development is a good example. A few we use are beads = bees, sandwiches = sentences, Ann = plain = hog = plant, "Army had half a day" = response to why someone came home early, "Mikey, my eyes, they're burning" = anything relating to hot weather, etc.
Anyway, thank you very much for the giveaway!

this is a pretty neat question! we have some odd slang in our house, especially with the clashing of cultures and accents. he's a new jersey born-and-bred jewish man, and i'm a southern methodist, so it seems like we learn new words all the time. that's not even counting all the silly little inside-joke slang words....
for example,
he's finally learned that grits is two syllables and he gets such a kick out of hearing me say oil or rice.
and i still can't say yiddish words right (i don't have the flegm for it), but it still makes me smile when he says i have a shana punum (the spelling is wrong, i'm sure, but it means pretty face).
jennifer, i can't wait to read this! congrats on new release week!
k_sunshine1977 at yahoo dot com
I make up my own words all the time, whether it's a code word for something so only certain people know what I'm talking about, or if I screw up a word and say something else and that becomes the nickname for that thing.
juliecokies(at)gmail.com
I really dont have my own slang words. Sadly the ones I use are pretty common.

Actually when I was in High School my ex and his weird friends came up with "Hellup" like Shut the hell up! I think I used it once or twice but felt entirely dumb when I said it. That and the fact that I never really found the reason to tell anyone to shut the hell up...well maybe no one but my ex lol
