Trance by Linda Gerber is for readers 12 years old or 7th grade and up. Speak, an imprint of Penguin Group USA INC., will release Trance October 14th 2010. I received this novel as part of an ARC Tour. The lovely Lauren from Shooting Stars Mag contacted me to review this one. I had it TBR'd already so of course I accepted. Thank you Lauren.
Ashlyn and Kyra are sisters who have a heavy burden on their shoulders. They share visions or glimpses of danger in the near future of those they know or have met. The visions make life difficult on them from as early as preschool years.
After the sisters suffer a devastating blow, what semblance of a normal life they once held to is gone. The family is left with pain, confusion and a 'a fortress of unsaid words.'
Ashlyn is the narrator of Trance and we learn of Kyra through Ashlyn's memories and references. Ashlyn is a promising young artist and a well crafted character all around. Linda Gerber did a fantastic job describing Ashlyn's art. I could feel for myself the beauty in unlikely places photographed and kept in a picture journal.
The plot is appealing and exciting to read. There is a big twist in the novel or a more-so a revelation made between Ashlyn and her love interest. Once the plot was going there- I already knew. Made me wonder if it was predicable but I really think it's from my active imagination. Regardless, the plot still impressed me that I read this novel in several hours last night. I am a Dialogue-Diva and I am not too proud to say so *hmph* The dialogue flowed with the grace of a dancer. Nothing said had me eye- rolling and thinking- wth! A natural flow that I easily lost myself in.
"NO, NO, NO"-- is exactly what I wrote on my notes when my plot-twist suspicion is confirmed. I wrote two other words as well but that might just be a spoiler when reading the start of Trance.

Final Say So-The intended audience will love the novel but it will not stop there- other teens and adults will enjoy Trance as well. The plot is complicated enough to keep older readers interested but simple in thought that the younger ones will also be intrigued. It's a great read. I don't think I've recently read a novel geared toward this young of an audience but Linda did a smashing job. Many times I didn't realize that someone half my age will to be reading this one as well.
Sexual Content: None- well, there's kissing. The romance between Ashlyn and her love interest is so sweet and the dialogue is superb. My romance thrill is happily satisfied. Yes, I will be buying my younger sister this novel when it releases in October.

Great review! It is often really hard for adults to 'get into' that age bracket of book, so it's interesting to hear that you did! I feel like it's been so long since I read something like that, but maybe I should again.
